How to Use

Dosage

One tablet per day.

Method

Take the tablet whole with a glass of water, at the same time each day, usually in the morning. You can take it with or without food.

Important

Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor, which is usually one tablet per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Cough
  • Low blood pressure
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Dehydration (feeling very thirsty, dry mouth, peeing less, dark urine, dry skin)
  • Muscle pain
  • Tiredness or fatigue
  • Tingling or numbness
  • Blurred vision
  • Ringing or buzzing in the ears (tinnitus)
  • Low potassium in the blood
  • Increased fat levels in the blood
  • Low sodium in the blood
  • Low magnesium in the blood
  • High uric acid in the blood
  • Itchy skin rash or other rashes
  • Decreased appetite
  • Mild nausea and vomiting
  • Dizziness or fainting when standing up quickly (orthostatic hypotension)
  • Difficulty getting or keeping an erection
  • Stomach ache
  • Headache
  • Sleep problems or feeling down (depression)
  • Other vision disturbances
RARE
  • Severe spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • Severe joint pain
  • Serious breathing difficulties, including shortness of breath, lung inflammation, or fluid in the lungs
  • Severe kidney problems, including very low urine output or kidney failure
  • Blood disorders like low white blood cells (leading to infections), low platelets (causing bleeding/bruising), or anemia (low red blood cells, causing tiredness)
  • Liver problems, including yellow skin/eyes (jaundice) or increased liver enzymes
  • Gout attack (caused by high uric acid)
  • Fainting
  • Swelling in the intestines, causing severe stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
  • Severe skin reactions, including widespread rash, red-purple spots, blisters on lips/eyes/mouth, peeling skin, fever, or increased sun sensitivity leading to blisters
  • Severe changes in blood electrolytes (very high potassium or very low sodium), causing severe muscle cramps, irregular heartbeats, confusion, or fast breathing
  • Severe upper abdominal pain (pancreatitis)
  • Skin and lip cancer (non-melanoma)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to valsartan, hydrochlorothiazide, sulfonamides (similar medicines), or any other ingredients.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are more than 3 months pregnant or if you are breastfeeding. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver or kidney disease, cannot urinate, or are on dialysis.
  • Tell your doctor if you have abnormal potassium, sodium, or calcium levels, gout, or diabetes and are taking aliskiren.
  • Inform your doctor if you have ever had swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat (angioedema) with other medicines. Stop taking this medicine and seek immediate medical help if these symptoms occur.

  • Seek medical help immediately if you experience decreased vision or eye pain. This could be serious and lead to permanent vision loss if not treated.
  • Protect your skin from sun exposure. This medicine can increase your risk of skin cancer, especially with long-term use. Tell your doctor if you have had skin cancer or notice new skin changes.
  • Get urgent medical attention if you suddenly have severe shortness of breath or trouble breathing after taking this medicine, especially if you have had lung problems before.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking other blood pressure medicines, especially ACE inhibitors (like enalapril, lisinopril, ramipril) or aliskiren.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Effectiveness is reduced in renal impairment. Consider risk of orthostatic hypotension and hyponatraemia and -kalemia. (updated 19.5.2025)
