How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine the right dose for you, usually 500-1000 mg given 2-3 times a day or 1000 mg every 6-8 hours, depending on your condition.

Method

This medicine is given slowly into a vein (intravenously) by a doctor or nurse. It must not be given into a muscle or into the spine.

Important

The maximum daily dose is usually determined by your doctor, but typically does not exceed 4000 mg for adults.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
RARE
  • Skin rash
  • Low blood pressure or fainting, especially if the injection is given too fast
  • Blood clots
  • Seizures
  • Vision problems, including changes in color vision
  • Allergic reactions

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to tranexamic acid or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you currently have a blood clot disorder.
  • Do not use if you have severe kidney problems.
  • Do not use if you have had seizures in the past.
  • This medicine must only be given into a vein. It should not be injected into the spine or brain due to serious risks.

  • Tell your doctor if you have blood in your urine, as this medicine can cause blockages.
  • Tell your doctor if you use hormonal birth control, as this may increase your risk of blood clots.
  • If you take this medicine for a long time, your doctor will check your eyesight regularly for changes.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant.
  • Tell your doctor immediately if you feel pain in your back or legs during or soon after the injection.

Category C
