How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose for adults aged 18-65 is one Sumatriptan Sandoz 50 mg tablet. Some patients may need 100 mg.

Method

Swallow the film-coated tablets or tablet halves whole with water. The 50 mg tablet can be divided into equal doses, while the 100 mg tablet should be swallowed whole.

Important

Do not take more than six 50 mg tablets or three 100 mg tablets (a total maximum of 300 mg) within 24 hours.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dizziness, drowsiness
  • Unusual sensations, like tingling or numbness
  • Temporary increase in blood pressure right after taking the medicine
  • Hot flashes
  • Shortness of breath
  • Nausea or vomiting (might be from the medicine or migraine)
  • Feeling of heaviness (in the chest, neck, or other body parts). These feelings can be strong but usually pass quickly.
  • Muscle pain in one or more muscles
  • Pain, warmth, cold, or pressure/tightness (in the chest, neck, or other body parts). These feelings can be strong but usually pass quickly.
  • Feeling weak, tired (usually mild to moderate and temporary)
RARE
  • Breast pain
  • Small changes in liver function tests
  • Seizures or fits
  • Tremors, muscle spasms causing abnormal posture or poor movement control
  • Eye twitching, narrowed field of vision, vision problems (flashes), double vision, weakened vision, and sometimes permanent vision loss.
  • Slow heart rate, fast heart rate, palpitations, irregular heartbeat, temporary heart circulation problems, spasms in coronary arteries, chest tightness, heart attack.
  • Drop in blood pressure, circulation problems in limbs, e.g., in fingers (Raynaud's syndrome).
  • Inflammation of the large intestine due to poor blood flow in the bowel.
  • Diarrhea
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Stiff neck
  • Joint pain in one or more joints
  • Abnormal feeling of fear, with physical symptoms like sweating, tension, and fast heartbeat
  • Excessive sweating
  • If you have a recent injury or inflammation (like rheumatism or bowel inflammation), you may feel pain or worsening pain at the site of injury or inflammation.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to sumatriptan or any other ingredients.
  • Do not take if you have heart problems, such as blocked arteries, chest pain, or have had a heart attack.
  • Do not take if you have circulation problems in your legs causing cramp-like pain when walking.
  • Do not take if you have had a stroke or a mini-stroke (TIA).
  • Do not take if you have uncontrolled high blood pressure.

  • Do not take if you have severe liver disease.
  • Do not take with other migraine medicines containing ergotamine or other triptans, or if you have used them in the last 24 hours.
  • Do not take if you are taking MAO-inhibitors for depression or Parkinson's disease, or have taken them in the last 2 weeks.
  • If you get signs of a severe allergic reaction (like rash, hives, wheezing, swollen eyelids, face or lips, or fainting) after taking this medicine, stop taking it and get medical help right away.
  • If you feel chest pain or tightness after taking this medicine, get medical help right away, especially if it doesn't go away quickly or gets worse.
  • This medicine or migraine itself can make you drowsy. Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel drowsy.
  • Do not breastfeed for 12 hours after taking this medicine and discard any milk pumped during this time.
