How to Use

Dosage

Start with a low dose, typically 0.26 mg daily for the first week. Your doctor will slowly increase your dose every 5-7 days until your symptoms are controlled. A common maintenance dose is 1.05 mg daily.

Method

Take one tablet once a day, at the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not chew, break, or crush the tablet.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 3.15 mg, as directed by your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Sleepiness
  • Dizziness
  • Uncontrolled movements (dyskinesia)
  • Nausea
  • Trouble sleeping (insomnia)
  • Hallucinations (seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not real)
  • Abnormal dreams
  • Confusion
  • Strong urges to behave unusually, such as gambling, overeating, or excessive spending
  • Fatigue (feeling very tired)
  • Swelling, especially in the legs (fluid retention)
  • Headache
  • Low blood pressure (hypotension)
  • Constipation
  • Vomiting
  • Vision problems
  • Weight loss and decreased appetite
RARE
  • Delusions or paranoia (e.g., strong worry about your health)
  • Restlessness
  • Delirium (confusion, reduced awareness of reality)
  • Excessive daytime sleepiness or sudden sleep attacks
  • Memory loss
  • Increased movements and inability to stay still (hyperkinesia)
  • Fainting
  • Weight gain
  • Allergic reactions (e.g., rash, itching)
  • Heart failure (heart problems that can cause shortness of breath or swollen ankles)
  • Inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone (a hormone imbalance)
  • Shortness of breath
  • Hiccups
  • Pneumonia (lung infection)
  • Strong urges to act in harmful ways, such as uncontrolled gambling, increased sex drive, excessive spending, or binge eating
  • Mania (feeling very excited or over-energetic)
  • Spontaneous erection
  • Symptoms like depression, apathy (lack of interest), anxiety, tiredness, sweating, or pain when stopping or reducing the dose (dopamine agonist withdrawal syndrome)

Important Warnings

  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney disease.
  • You might see, hear, or feel things that are not real (hallucinations). Most of these are visual. Do not drive or operate machinery if this happens.
  • You may experience uncontrolled movements (dyskinesia), especially if you have advanced Parkinson's disease and are taking levodopa.
  • You might have trouble keeping your body and neck straight (dystonia).
  • You may feel very sleepy or fall asleep suddenly. Do not drive or operate machinery if this happens.

  • You may experience symptoms similar to psychosis or schizophrenia.
  • You might have vision problems. Have your eyes checked regularly during treatment.
  • If you have serious heart or blood vessel disease, your blood pressure needs to be checked often, especially at the start of treatment, to prevent it from dropping too low when you stand up.
  • You or your family might notice strong urges to act in unusual ways, like gambling too much, overeating, spending excessively, or having an increased sex drive. Tell your doctor if this happens.
  • You or your family might notice symptoms of mania (excitement, elevated mood) or delirium (confusion, reduced awareness). Tell your doctor if this happens.
  • If you stop or lower your dose, you might experience symptoms like depression, apathy, anxiety, tiredness, sweating, or pain. Contact your doctor if these symptoms persist.
  • Be careful when drinking alcohol during treatment with Pramipexole Orion.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C
