How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 0.26 mg daily for the first week, increasing gradually as directed by your doctor.

Method

Take one tablet once daily at the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not chew, break, or crush it.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 3.15 mg of pramipexole.

Possible Side Effects

  • Uncontrolled body movements
  • Feeling sleepy
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea (feeling sick)
  • Strong urges to behave unusually (like gambling or overeating)
  • Seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not real (hallucinations)
  • Feeling confused
  • Feeling tired
  • Trouble sleeping (insomnia)
  • Swelling, usually in the legs (fluid retention)
  • Headache
  • Low blood pressure
  • Unusual dreams
  • Constipation
  • Blurred vision or other vision problems
  • Vomiting
  • Weight loss, including decreased appetite
RARE
  • Paranoia (like being overly worried about your health)
  • False beliefs (delusions)
  • Feeling very tired during the day and falling asleep suddenly
  • Memory loss
  • Increased movements and inability to stay still (hyperkinesia)
  • Weight gain
  • Allergic reactions (like rash, itching)
  • Fainting
  • Heart problems (like heart failure causing shortness of breath or swollen ankles)
  • Too much antidiuretic hormone being released
  • Feeling restless
  • Shortness of breath
  • Hiccups
  • Lung infection
  • Uncontrolled urges for harmful activities (e.g., severe gambling, altered sexual interest, excessive spending, compulsive eating)
  • Delirium (reduced awareness, confusion, loss of reality)
  • Mania (feeling agitated, overly excited)
  • Withdrawal symptoms after stopping or reducing the medicine, such as depression, apathy, anxiety, tiredness, sweating, or pain.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to pramipexole or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney disease.
  • You may experience seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not real (hallucinations), mostly visual.
  • You may experience unusual, uncontrolled body movements.
  • This medicine can cause you to feel very sleepy or fall asleep suddenly, especially if you have Parkinson's disease. Do not drive or operate machinery if this happens.

  • You may feel strong urges to behave in unusual ways that could harm you or others, such as gambling, overeating, excessive spending, or increased sexual urges.
  • Talk to your doctor if you experience symptoms of mania (feeling agitated, overly excited) or delirium (confusion, loss of contact with reality).
  • Have your eyes checked regularly during treatment.
  • Your blood pressure should be checked regularly, especially at the start of treatment, to prevent sudden drops when standing up.
  • Be careful if you drink alcohol or take medicines that make you sleepy, as this can affect your ability to drive or use machines.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding unless your doctor tells you to. If you must use it while breastfeeding, stop breastfeeding.
  • Tell your doctor if you see parts of the tablets in your stool, as the active substance is released gradually.

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Sedative. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Common adverse effects include orthostatic hypotension, confusion, sudden episodes of deep sleep, impulse control disorders and lower limb edema.. . (updated 6.10.2025)
