How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 4 mg daily.

Method

Swallow the capsules whole with water, do not break or chew them. You can take them with or without food, around the same time each day.

Important

Your doctor will determine the maximum daily dose for you based on your condition and blood tests. The recommended starting dose is 4 mg per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Shortness of breath
  • Lung infections (pneumonia and bronchitis)
  • Bacterial or viral infections of the nose, sinuses, and throat
  • Flu-like symptoms (influenza)
  • Low red blood cell count (anemia), causing tiredness and weakness
  • Low potassium levels in the blood (hypokalemia), causing weakness, muscle cramps, muscle pain, heart palpitations, tingling or numbness, shortness of breath, and mood changes
  • High blood sugar
  • Fast and irregular heartbeat (atrial fibrillation)
  • Loss of appetite
  • Constipation, diarrhea, or nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Abdominal pain
  • Lack of energy (fatigue)
  • Difficulty falling asleep or waking up (insomnia)
  • Dizziness, tremors
  • Muscle cramps, muscle weakness
  • Bone pain, back pain
  • Numbness, tingling or burning sensation on the skin, pain in hands or feet (peripheral sensory neuropathy)
  • Body swelling, including arms and legs
  • Rashes
  • Urinary tract infection, causing burning when urinating or needing to urinate more often
  • Falls
  • Bleeding in the head
  • Reduced movement or sensation in hands, arms, feet, and legs due to nerve damage (peripheral sensorimotor neuropathy)
  • Numbness, itching, and a tingling sensation on the skin (paresthesia)
  • Spinning sensation in the head making it hard to stand or move normally
  • Swelling caused by fluid retention
  • Hives (urticaria)
  • Itching skin
  • Shingles
  • Heart attack (chest pain spreading to arms, neck or jaw, sweating, shortness of breath, nausea or vomiting)
  • Chest pain, lung or bronchial infection
  • High blood pressure
  • Decrease in red and white blood cells and platelets at the same time (pancytopenia), making you more prone to bleeding, bruising, tiredness, weakness, shortness of breath, and infections
  • Decreased number of lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell), often due to infection (lymphopenia)
  • Low magnesium levels in the blood (hypomagnesemia), causing tiredness, generalized weakness, muscle cramps, irritability, and can lead to low calcium levels in the blood (hypocalcemia), causing numbness/tingling in hands, feet or lips, muscle cramps, muscle weakness, confusion
  • Low phosphate levels in the blood (hypophosphatemia), causing muscle weakness, irritability, or confusion
  • High calcium levels in the blood (hypercalcemia), causing slower reflexes and skeletal muscle weakness
  • High potassium levels in the blood, which can cause abnormal heart rhythm
  • Low sodium levels in the blood, which can cause tiredness, confusion, muscle twitching, seizures (epileptic seizures), or coma
  • High uric acid levels in the blood, which can cause a type of arthritis called gout
  • Low blood pressure, which can cause dizziness or fainting
  • Sore or dry mouth
  • Changes in taste
  • Swollen abdomen
  • Confusion
  • Depression (low mood)
  • Loss of consciousness, fainting
  • Blurred vision (cataract)
  • Kidney damage
  • Inability to urinate
  • Abnormal liver test results
  • Pelvic pain
  • Weight loss
RARE
  • Stroke
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis), which can cause itchy skin, yellowing of skin and whites of eyes (jaundice), light-colored stools, dark urine, and abdominal pain
  • Breakdown of cancer cells leading to release of toxic substances into the blood (tumor lysis syndrome), which can cause kidney problems
  • Underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism), which can cause symptoms like tiredness, sluggishness, muscle weakness, slow heart rate, and weight gain
  • Fever, chills, sore throat, cough, mouth sores, or other signs of infection (due to low white blood cells fighting infection).
  • Bleeding or bruising without injury, including nosebleeds, or stomach/intestinal bleeding (due to effects on blood platelets).
  • Rapid breathing, fast heart rate, fever, chills, very little or no urination, nausea, vomiting, confusion, unconsciousness (due to severe blood infection like sepsis).
  • Severe, long-lasting, or bloody diarrhea (possibly with stomach pain and fever) caused by a Clostridium difficile bacterial infection.
  • Chest pain or leg pain and swelling, especially in the lower legs or calves (due to a blood clot).
  • Shortness of breath (due to severe lung or bronchial infection, lung inflammation, heart failure, or blood clot).
  • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and throat, which can cause breathing difficulties (severe allergic reaction like angioedema or anaphylaxis).
  • Certain types of skin cancer (squamous cell carcinoma and basal cell carcinoma), which can cause changes in skin appearance or growths. Report any skin changes to your doctor immediately.
  • Reactivation of Hepatitis B infection, potentially causing yellow skin and eyes, dark brown urine, right-sided abdominal pain, fever, and nausea or vomiting. Report these symptoms to your doctor immediately.
  • Widespread rash, high body temperature, enlarged lymph nodes, and symptoms affecting other organs (severe drug reactions like DRESS, TEN, or SJS). Stop taking pomalidomide and seek immediate medical help if these occur.
  • Organ rejection (e.g., heart, liver).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or are planning to become pregnant, as it can severely harm an unborn baby.
  • If you have had blood clots or have a high risk of getting them, as this medicine can increase the risk of blood clots.
  • If you have ever had an allergic reaction to medicines like thalidomide or lenalidomide.
  • If you have had a heart attack, heart failure, breathing problems, smoke, or have high blood pressure or cholesterol.
  • If you have many cancer cells in your body, including in your bone marrow, as the medicine can cause a condition where cancer cells break down and release harmful substances.

  • If you have or have had nerve damage (neuropathy) causing tingling or pain in your hands or feet.
  • If you have ever had a Hepatitis B infection, as this medicine can reactivate the virus.
  • If you get a rash, fever, flu-like symptoms, swelling, or other severe skin reactions, which can be signs of a serious allergic reaction.
  • Treatment with Pomalidomide Stada for multiple myeloma may increase the risk of other types of cancer. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and risks of treatment.
  • If you experience blurred vision, speech problems, weakness in your arms or legs, balance issues, memory problems, or confusion, as these could be signs of a serious brain disorder (PML).
  • If you have liver or kidney problems, your doctor will monitor your condition very closely.
