Pirfenidon Cipla contains pirfenidone and is used to treat a lung disease called idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) in adults.

How to Use

Dosage

Days 1-7: 267 mg (1 yellow tablet) three times a day with food. Days 8-14: 534 mg (2 yellow tablets) three times a day with food. From day 15 onwards: 801 mg (3 yellow tablets or 1 pink tablet) three times a day with food.

Method

Swallow tablets whole with water, with or after food, to reduce the risk of side effects like nausea and dizziness.

Important

The recommended maximum daily maintenance dose is 2403 mg (801 mg three times a day), taken as 3 yellow tablets or 1 pink tablet three times a day with food.

  • Low sodium in the blood, which can cause headache, dizziness, confusion, weakness, muscle cramps, nausea, and vomiting
  • Decreased white blood cell count shown in blood tests

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to pirfenidone or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have previously had angioedema (severe allergic reaction with swelling of the face, lips, or tongue, difficulty breathing or wheezing) while taking pirfenidone.
  • Do not take if you are taking fluvoxamine (a medicine for depression or obsessive-compulsive disorder).
  • Do not take if you have severe or end-stage liver disease.
  • Do not take if you have severe kidney disease requiring dialysis.

  • This medicine can make your skin very sensitive to sunlight. Avoid direct sunlight and sunbeds. Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing (long sleeves, trousers, hat) daily.
  • Do not take other medicines that make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, such as tetracycline antibiotics (e.g., doxycycline).
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you have mild or moderate liver problems.
  • Stop smoking before and during treatment with Pirfenidon Cipla, as smoking can make the medicine less effective.
  • This medicine can cause dizziness and tiredness. Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel dizzy or tired.
  • This medicine can cause weight loss. Your doctor will check your weight regularly.
  • Rare but serious skin reactions like Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS), toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN), and DRESS syndrome have been reported. If you get severe skin rash, blisters, or peeling skin, stop taking this medicine and see a doctor right away.
  • This medicine can cause serious liver problems, which have sometimes been fatal. You will need blood tests to check your liver before starting treatment, every month for the first 6 months, and every 3 months after that, for as long as you take the medicine.
  • Do not drink grapefruit juice while taking this medicine, as it can stop Pirfenidon Cipla from working properly.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or are planning to get pregnant, as the risks to the unborn baby are unknown. If you are breastfeeding, talk to your doctor before using this medicine.
  • This medicine is not for children or teenagers under 18 years old.
