How to Use

Dosage

One 400 mg tablet once a day.

Method

Take orally, swallow the tablet whole with plenty of liquid, with or without food, around the same time each day.

Important

One 400 mg tablet per day. Do not exceed the recommended dose.

  • Reduced skin sensation
  • Abnormal dreams
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Altered or lost sense of smell
  • Balance or coordination problems
  • Partial or complete memory loss
  • Hearing loss (usually temporary)
  • Increased uric acid in blood
  • Mood changes
  • Speech problems
  • Fainting
  • Muscle weakness
  • Joint inflammation
  • Increased skin sensitivity
  • Feeling detached from oneself
  • Muscle stiffness
  • Severe drop in white blood cells (agranulocytosis)
  • Decrease in red/white blood cells and platelets (pancytopenia)
  • Syndrome with reduced urine excretion and low sodium (SIADH)
  • Loss of consciousness due to very low blood sugar (hypoglycemic coma)
  • Increased sensitivity to sun or UV light
  • Red, localized skin patches with blisters (recurring with re-exposure)
  • Increased pressure in the head
  • Increased sodium in blood
  • Increased calcium in blood
  • Certain type of reduced red blood cells (hemolytic anemia)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to moxifloxacin, other quinolone antibiotics, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Not for pregnant or breastfeeding women.
  • Not for people under 18 years old.
  • Do not take if you have certain heart rhythm problems or electrolyte imbalances (low potassium/magnesium in blood).
  • Do not take if you have severe liver disease or very high liver enzyme levels.

  • Do not take if you have a history of tendon problems with quinolone antibiotics.
  • Do not take if you have had serious side effects with other quinolone antibiotics before.
  • If you have diabetes, monitor your blood sugar carefully as levels may change.
  • Avoid prolonged sun exposure and UV light (e.g., sunbeds) because this medicine can make your skin sensitive to light.
  • Seek emergency care immediately if you have sudden severe pain in your abdomen, chest, or back, as these may be signs of serious aortic problems.
  • Stop use and contact a doctor if you have signs of liver damage, such as yellow skin/eyes, dark urine, itching, nausea, vomiting, or unusual bleeding.
  • Stop taking and contact your doctor immediately if you have a seizure.
  • Stop use and contact a doctor if you have symptoms of nerve damage, such as pain, burning, tingling, numbness, or muscle weakness, especially in your hands and feet.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience mental health problems, such as depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts.
  • Stop use and contact your doctor immediately if you have severe diarrhea with blood or mucus.
  • Stop use and contact a doctor if you have tendon pain or swelling. Rest the affected area.
  • Contact an eye specialist immediately if your vision worsens or you have other eye problems.
  • Stop use and seek medical help for severe skin reactions, such as widespread rashes, blisters, or peeling skin.
  • If you are elderly with kidney problems, drink plenty of fluids to prevent worsening kidney function.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Risk of QT prolongation. Reduce the dose and/or increase the dosing interval in moderately severe renal impairment. Calcium, iron, zinc, magnesium and aluminium reduce absorption. Increases the risk of tendinitis and aortic injury and valvular heart disease. Consider central nervous system adverse effects, especially lowered seizure threshold and confusion. (updated 4.12.2023)
