How to Use

Dosage

Start with 120 mg twice a day for 7 days. After that, take 240 mg twice a day.

Method

Swallow capsules whole with water, do not crush or chew. Take with food to reduce side effects.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 480 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Flushing, feeling warm, burning, or itching in the body
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea
  • Stomach pain or cramps
  • Inflammation of the stomach and intestines (gastroenteritis)
  • Vomiting
  • Indigestion (dyspepsia)
  • Stomach lining inflammation (gastritis)
  • General stomach discomfort
  • Burning sensation in the body
  • Hot flashes, feeling hot
  • Skin itching
  • Rash
  • Red or pinkish patches on the skin (erythema)
  • Hair loss (alopecia)
  • Low white blood cell count
  • Protein in urine
  • Increased liver enzymes in blood
  • Ketones in urine
  • Headache (more often reported in children and adolescents)
  • Sore throat (more often reported in children and adolescents)
  • Cough (more often reported in children and adolescents)
  • Painful menstruation (more often reported in children and adolescents)
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction (e.g., swelling of face/lips/tongue, wheezing, trouble breathing, dizziness, fainting)
  • Low platelet count
  • Liver inflammation with increased liver enzymes (combined with bilirubin)
  • Shingles (Herpes zoster), with symptoms like blisters, burning, itching, or pain in the skin, fever, weakness, numbness, or red spots with severe pain
  • Runny nose

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to dimethyl fumarate or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you are suspected of having or have a rare brain infection called PML.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe kidney, liver, stomach, or bowel disease, or a severe infection like pneumonia.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you suspect shingles (Herpes zoster) or if your MS symptoms worsen or you notice new symptoms, as these could be signs of a serious brain infection (PML).
  • Watch for symptoms of a rare kidney disease (Fanconi syndrome), such as increased urination, thirst, muscle weakness, or bone pain, and tell your doctor if they occur.

  • This medicine should not be given to children under 10 years old.
  • Avoid strong alcoholic drinks for one hour before and after taking this medicine, as it can cause stomach inflammation (gastritis).
  • Avoid live vaccines while taking this medicine, as it may increase your risk of infection.
  • Your doctor will check your white blood cell count, kidney, and liver function regularly.
