How to Use

Method

This medicine is given as an infusion (drip) into a vein over 30-60 minutes.

Possible Side Effects

  • Low platelet counts (cells that help blood clot)

  • Increased blood creatinine levels (waste product from muscles)
  • Increased blood urea levels (waste product)
  • Fever
  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Bleeding
  • Metabolic changes due to breakdown of cancer cells
  • Anemia (low red blood cells causing paleness, weakness, shortness of breath)
  • Low neutrophil counts (a type of white blood cell important for fighting infections)
  • Hypersensitivity reactions (e.g., allergic rash, hives)
  • Increased liver enzyme levels (ASAT/ALAT), which can indicate liver inflammation or damage
  • Increased alkaline phosphatase levels (an enzyme mainly produced in the liver and bones)

  • Severe allergic hypersensitivity reactions (anaphylactic reactions)
  • Anaphylactoid reactions (symptoms similar to anaphylaxis)
  • Drowsiness
  • Hoarseness
  • Acute circulatory failure (sudden drop in blood pressure and flow)
  • Skin redness (erythema)
  • Rash (dermatitis)
  • Itching (pruritus)
  • Macular rash
  • Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis)
  • Bone marrow failure (which may cause malaise and show in blood tests)
  • Primary atypical pneumonia
  • Breakdown of red blood cells (hemolysis)

  • Lung fibrosis (scarring of lung tissue)
  • Esophagitis with bleeding
  • Gastrointestinal bleeding (stomach or intestinal)

  • Multiple organ failure

  • Liver failure
  • Irregular and often fast heartbeat (atrial fibrillation)
  • Severe painful, red or purple rash with blisters that spread and may involve mucous membranes (e.g., mouth, lips), possibly with fever (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis).
  • Drug rash in combination with rituximab
  • Pneumonitis (lung inflammation)
  • Pulmonary hemorrhage (lung bleeding)
  • Excessive urination, even at night, and excessive thirst even after drinking fluids (nephrogenic diabetes insipidus)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to bendamustine hydrochloride or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not breastfeed during treatment.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver problems or yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice).
  • Do not use if your bone marrow is severely weakened, leading to very low white blood cell or platelet counts. Your doctor will check these regularly.
  • Do not use if you have had major surgery within 30 days before starting treatment.

  • Do not use if you have an infection, especially with a low white blood cell count.
  • Do not use if you have recently received a yellow fever vaccine.
  • Tell your doctor immediately if you develop severe painful, spreading red or purple rashes, blisters, or peeling skin, especially on your mouth, lips, eyes, or genitals, potentially with fever.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a history of heart disease, like a heart attack, chest pain, or severe irregular heartbeats.
  • Contact your doctor if you experience side pain, blood in your urine, or reduced urine output, as this could be tumor lysis syndrome, causing kidney or heart problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a severe allergic reaction or hypersensitivity, especially if you get reactions during or after your first infusion.
  • Seek medical help immediately if you or someone else notices memory loss, difficulty thinking, trouble walking, or vision loss, as these can be signs of a rare but serious brain infection called PML.
  • Contact your doctor if you notice any new or suspicious skin changes, as this medicine may increase your risk of certain types of skin cancer.
  • Seek medical attention if you experience a widespread rash, high body temperature, swollen lymph nodes, and symptoms affecting other organs (DRESS reaction).
