How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will prescribe your dose individually, usually 100–900 mg daily. For children (under 15 years), the usual dose is 100–400 mg daily.

Method

Take the tablets after food and swallow them whole with a glass of water.

Important

The maximum daily dose can be up to 900 mg, but your doctor may divide it into multiple doses if it's over 300 mg or if you experience stomach upset.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Skin rash.
  • Increased levels of thyroid-stimulating hormone in blood.
RARE
  • Nausea or vomiting.
  • Abnormal liver function tests.
  • Diarrhea.
  • Liver problems, such as liver inflammation.
  • Changes in blood cell counts (e.g., easy bruising, sore throat, signs of infection).
  • Swollen lymph glands.
  • High fever.
  • Blood in urine (hematuria).
  • Increased cholesterol levels in blood.
  • General feeling of illness or weakness.
  • Weakness, numbness, instability, difficulty moving (paralysis), or loss of consciousness.
  • Headache, dizziness, drowsiness, or vision changes.
  • Chest pain (angina), high blood pressure, or slow pulse.
  • Male infertility or erectile dysfunction.
  • Breast enlargement in men and women.
  • Changes in bowel habits.
  • Taste changes.
  • Cataracts.
  • Hair loss or hair discoloration.
  • Depression.
  • Loss of muscle coordination (ataxia).
  • Tingling, prickling, or burning sensation on the skin (paresthesia).
  • Fluid retention causing swelling (edema), especially in ankles.
  • Abnormal glucose metabolism (diabetes); your doctor may check your blood sugar.
  • Aseptic meningitis (inflammation of membranes around brain and spinal cord) with symptoms like stiff neck, headache, nausea, fever, or confusion. Seek immediate medical care.

Important Warnings

  • If you get a severe skin rash with sores in your mouth, throat, nose, or genitals, or red, swollen eyes, stop taking Zyloric and contact your doctor immediately.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver, kidney, heart problems, high blood pressure, gout attacks, or thyroid issues, or if you are of Han Chinese, Thai, or Korean origin.
  • If you have gout, avoid taking medicines containing aspirin for fever or pain.
  • This medicine may cause dizziness or problems with coordination. Do not drive or operate machinery if you experience these effects.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C
