How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is one spray (2.5 mg, 5 mg, or 10 mg) into one nostril.

Method

Use the nasal spray as soon as a headache starts. You may take a second dose if the headache returns within two hours or later in the day.

Important

Do not use more than 10 mg or 2 doses (depending on dose strength) within a 24-hour period. Ask your doctor if you are unsure.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Taste changes.
  • Unusual sensations, like tingling in fingers and toes or increased skin sensitivity.
  • Drowsiness, dizziness, or feeling warm.
  • Headache.
  • Irregular heartbeat.
  • Nosebleed, nasal irritation, blocked and/or runny nose.
  • Nausea, vomiting.
  • Stomach pain.
  • Dry mouth.
  • Muscle weakness or aches.
  • Weakness.
  • Feeling of heaviness, tightness, pain, or pressure in the throat, neck, arms, legs, or chest.
  • Difficulty swallowing.
RARE
  • Allergic reactions, including lumpy rash (hives), swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue, and throat, or difficulty swallowing or breathing.
  • Chest pain (angina pectoris, often with effort), heart attack, or spasm of heart blood vessels. You may feel chest pain or shortness of breath.
  • Spasm of intestinal blood vessels, which can damage the intestines. You may have stomach pain or bloody diarrhea.
  • Very fast heartbeat.
  • Slight increase in blood pressure.
  • Increased urine output or more frequent urination.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to zolmitriptan or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have high blood pressure.
  • Do not use if you have or have had heart problems, such as a heart attack, chest pain (angina), or symptoms like shortness of breath or chest tightness.
  • Do not use if you have had a stroke or mini-stroke (TIA).
  • Do not use if you have severe kidney problems.

  • Do not use if you are taking other migraine medicines like triptans (e.g., sumatriptan) or ergotamine-type drugs.
  • Using this medicine too often can cause daily headaches or make your headaches worse. Talk to your doctor if you think this is happening.
  • Zomig Nasal is not recommended for children under 12 years or adults over 65 years.
  • Migraine attacks can slow your reactions. Be careful when driving or using machines. If you feel sleepy or dizzy after taking this medicine, do not drive or use machines.
