How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is one 2.5 mg or 5 mg tablet.

Method

Take Zomig as soon as a migraine headache begins, swallowing the tablet whole with water. You may take a second tablet if the headache continues after 2 hours or returns within 24 hours.

Important

Do not take more than two tablets in 24 hours. The maximum daily dose is 5 mg for 2.5 mg tablets, and 10 mg for 5 mg tablets.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Tingling in fingers and toes or increased skin sensitivity.
  • Drowsiness, dizziness, or feeling warm.
  • Headache.
  • Irregular heartbeat.
  • Nausea, vomiting.
  • Abdominal pain.
  • Dry mouth.
  • Muscle weakness or pain.
  • Weakness.
  • Feeling of heaviness, tightness, pain or pressure in the throat, neck, arms, legs, or chest.
  • Difficulty swallowing.
RARE
  • Allergic reactions, including hives, swelling of face, lips, mouth, tongue, throat, and difficulty swallowing or breathing.
  • Chest pain (angina), heart attack, or spasm of heart's blood vessels. You may feel chest pain or shortness of breath.
  • Spasm of intestinal blood vessels, which can damage the intestines. You may have abdominal pain or bloody diarrhea.
  • Very fast heart rate.
  • Slight increase in blood pressure.
  • Increased or more frequent urination.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to zolmitriptan or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have high blood pressure, or if you have or have had heart problems, including a heart attack or chest pain.
  • Do not use if you have had a stroke or mini-stroke (TIA).
  • Do not use if you have severe kidney problems.
  • Do not use with other migraine medicines like ergotamine, its derivatives, or other triptans.

  • Zomig is not recommended for people under 18 or over 65 years of age.
  • Using Zomig too often can cause daily headaches or worsen migraines; contact your doctor if this happens.
  • Do not breastfeed for 24 hours after taking Zomig.
  • If you use St. John's wort, side effects from Zomig are more likely.
