How to Use

Dosage

Adults (18 years and older) should take one or two 15 mg capsules once a day, for up to two weeks, if needed.

Method

Swallow the capsule whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew it. For best results, take it at least 30 minutes before a meal, preferably in the morning. If you take it twice a day, take the first dose in the morning and the second in the evening.

Important

Do not take more than 30 mg per day and do not use for longer than two weeks unless your doctor tells you to.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache, dizziness
  • Constipation, stomach ache, feeling sick or throwing up, gas, dry mouth or sore throat
  • Skin rash, itching
  • Changes in liver blood tests
  • Feeling tired
  • Small, harmless growths in the stomach (polyps)
RARE
  • Feeling sad (depression)
  • Pain in joints or muscles
  • Swelling due to fluid in the body
  • Changes in blood cell counts
  • Increased risk of bone fractures (hip, wrist, or spine)
  • Fever
  • Restlessness, drowsiness, confusion, seeing or hearing things that aren't there (hallucinations), trouble sleeping, vision problems, spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • Changes in taste, loss of appetite, sore or swollen tongue
  • Skin reactions like burning or prickling under the skin, bruises, redness, and sweating more than usual
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Hair loss
  • Tingling or 'pins and needles' feeling on the skin, trembling
  • Anemia (looking pale)
  • Kidney inflammation, with possible signs like changes in how much you pee and blood in your pee
  • Liver inflammation (can cause yellow skin or eyes)
  • Breast swelling in men, trouble getting or keeping an erection (impotence)
  • Yeast infection (fungal infection in the tube that carries food to your stomach)
  • Inflammation in the mouth (stomatitis)
  • Inflammation in the bowel (colitis)
  • Higher levels of cholesterol and triglycerides in blood tests
  • Low sodium levels in the blood, which can cause feeling sick, throwing up, headache, drowsiness, tiredness, confusion, weak muscles or cramps, feeling irritable, seizures, and coma.
  • Lupus-like skin issues or a butterfly rash
  • Rash, possibly with joint pain
  • Seeing things that are not there (visual hallucinations)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Zolt if you are allergic to lansoprazole or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have serious liver problems, as your dose might need to be changed.
  • If you get diarrhea while taking Zolt, contact your doctor right away. This medicine has been linked to a slight increase in a type of gut inflammation.
  • Taking Zolt for more than a year can slightly raise your risk of bone fractures (in the hip, wrist, or spine). Tell your doctor if you have weak bones (osteoporosis) or are at risk, for example, if you take steroid medicines.
  • Zolt may affect how your body absorbs vitamin B12 if you take it for a long time. Talk to your doctor if you feel very tired, have tingling, a sore tongue or mouth sores, weak muscles, vision changes, memory issues, confusion, or feel sad.

  • Stop taking Zolt and get medical help right away if you get severe skin reactions like a widespread rash, fever, or skin peeling.
  • Kidney inflammation can happen during Zolt treatment. Symptoms might include less urine, blood in your urine, fever, rash, and joint pain. Tell your doctor about these symptoms.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. For short-term use only. Consider the numerous potential interactions, especially with clopidogrel and (es)citalopram. Avoid long-term use. Long-term use carries an increased risk of adverse effects. Risk of hypomagnesemia in prolonged use. (updated 10.11.2025)
