How to Use

Dosage

For adults, the typical starting dose is 25 mg or 50 mg daily, which your doctor may adjust.

Method

You can take Zoloft tablets with or without food, once a day, either in the morning or evening.

Important

The maximum daily dose for Zoloft is 200 mg.

  • Liver problems (yellow skin/eyes), abnormal liver tests
  • (For newborns, if taken late in pregnancy) severe lung problems (persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to sertraline or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take Zoloft if you are currently taking or have recently taken other medicines called MAO inhibitors (e.g., selegiline, moclobemide), or certain antibiotics like linezolid. You need to wait a specific time after stopping these medicines before starting Zoloft.
  • If you have epilepsy or have had seizures before, tell your doctor. Contact your doctor immediately if you have a seizure while taking Zoloft.
  • If you have had thoughts of harming yourself or suicide, or if these thoughts worsen, contact your doctor immediately.
  • Zoloft is generally not for children under 18, except for treating OCD in children aged 6-17.

  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, discuss with your doctor. Zoloft should only be used if the benefits outweigh the risks to the baby.
  • Zoloft can affect your ability to drive or use machines. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how this medicine affects you.
  • Do not drink grapefruit juice while taking Zoloft, as it can increase the amount of sertraline in your body.
