How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is one 2.5 mg tablet.

Method

Take the oral disintegrating tablet by tearing off one pocket, carefully peeling back the foil, and placing the tablet on your tongue where it will dissolve. Swallow with saliva, no water needed. It can be taken with or without food.

Important

Do not take more than two tablets (5 mg total) within a 24-hour period. There must be at least 2 hours between doses.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Tingling or increased skin sensitivity
  • Drowsiness, dizziness, or feeling warm
  • Irregular or fast heartbeat
  • Nausea, vomiting, or stomach pain
  • Dry mouth
  • Muscle weakness or muscle pain
  • Feeling weak
  • Heaviness, tightness, pain, or pressure in the throat, neck, arms, legs, or chest
  • Difficulty swallowing
RARE
  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Slightly higher or temporary high blood pressure
  • Increased or more frequent urination
  • Itchy rash (hives)
  • Sudden urge to urinate
  • Severe allergic reactions (e.g., swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue, throat), causing difficulty breathing, speaking, or swallowing. Stop taking the medicine and contact your doctor immediately.
  • Chest pain, tightness in the chest or throat, shortness of breath, or other heart attack-like symptoms. Stop taking the medicine and contact your doctor immediately.
  • Spasms of blood vessels in the intestines, which can damage the bowel, causing stomach pain or bloody diarrhea. Stop taking the medicine and contact your doctor immediately.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to zolmitriptan or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have severe kidney problems, have had a stroke or mini-stroke (TIA), or if you have a history of heart problems (like heart attack, angina, or symptoms like chest pain, shortness of breath), or circulation problems in your legs or arms.
  • Do not take if you have moderate to severe high blood pressure, or mild high blood pressure that is not controlled by medication.
  • Do not take with other triptan medicines (like sumatriptan, naratriptan, rizatriptan) or ergotamine-type medicines (like ergotamine or dihydroergotamine). Wait at least 24 hours between Zolmitriptan Sandoz and other triptans, and at least 6 hours between Zolmitriptan Sandoz and ergotamine-type medicines.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have risk factors for heart disease (e.g., high cholesterol, smoking, family history) or if you are a man over 40 or a postmenopausal woman.

  • Talk to your doctor if you have Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome or other abnormal heart rhythm, kidney or liver problems, or headaches with dizziness, walking difficulties, or weakness.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking antidepressants or St. John's Wort, as this may increase the risk of side effects.
  • Zolmitriptan Sandoz can raise blood pressure. If your blood pressure becomes too high (causing headaches, dizziness, ringing in ears), report it to your doctor immediately.
  • Using Zolmitriptan Sandoz too often can lead to chronic headaches. If this happens, contact your doctor, as you may need to stop using the tablets.
  • Zolmitriptan Sandoz is only for treating migraine attacks, not for other types of headaches that might be caused by more serious conditions.
  • Zolmitriptan Sandoz is not recommended for people under 18 or over 65. If you are over 65, your doctor will advise if you can use this medicine.
