How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is one 2.5 mg tablet.

Method

Place the tablet on your tongue, let it dissolve, and swallow it with saliva. You do not need water. Take it as soon as a migraine starts.

Important

Do not take more than two doses in 24 hours. The maximum daily dose is 5 mg if your prescribed dose is 2.5 mg, or 10 mg if your prescribed dose is 5 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • tingling or numbness in fingers and toes, increased skin sensitivity
  • feeling sleepy, dizzy, or warm
  • headache
  • irregular or fast heartbeat
  • feeling sick (nausea), vomiting
  • stomach pain
  • dry mouth
  • muscle weakness or pain
  • weakness
  • feeling of heaviness, tightness, pain, or pressure in your throat, neck, arms, legs, or chest
  • difficulty swallowing
RARE
  • very fast heartbeat (palpitations)
  • slight increase in blood pressure
  • increased or more frequent urination
  • allergic reactions, including hives and swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue, and throat. Stop taking the medicine immediately and contact your doctor.
  • chest pain (angina), heart attack, or spasms in the heart's blood vessels. If you feel chest pain or shortness of breath after taking Zolmistad, stop taking it and contact your doctor.
  • blood vessel spasms in the intestines, which can cause damage to the gut, leading to stomach pain or bloody diarrhea. If this happens, stop taking the medicine and contact your doctor.
  • sudden urge to urinate

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to zolmitriptan, menthol, or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have high blood pressure.
  • Do not use if you have or have had heart problems, such as a heart attack, chest pain (angina), or if you experience shortness of breath or chest tightness.
  • Do not use if you have had a stroke or a mini-stroke (TIA).
  • Do not use if you have severe kidney problems.

  • Do not use if you are currently taking other migraine medicines like ergotamines (e.g., dihydroergotamine, methysergide) or other triptans.
  • Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if you are at risk for heart disease (e.g., if you smoke, have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, or a family history of heart disease).
  • This medicine is not recommended for people under 18 or over 65 years old.
  • Using too much migraine medicine can lead to daily headaches or make your migraines worse. Contact your doctor if this happens.
  • If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, ask your doctor before using this medicine. Do not breastfeed for 24 hours after taking it.
  • A migraine attack can slow your reactions. Be careful when driving or operating machines. While Zolmistad is unlikely to affect these abilities, monitor your reaction before driving.
