How to Use

Dosage

Typically, for adults, 8 mg is taken once or twice a day, or as your doctor instructs.

Method

Place the tablet on your tongue; it will dissolve quickly. Then swallow normally.

Important

Do not take more than 16 mg in a day, unless your doctor tells you otherwise. For children, the maximum daily dose is 8 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache

  • Feeling warm or flushing
  • Constipation
  • Seizures
  • Movement problems
  • Irregular or slow heartbeat
  • Chest pain
  • Low blood pressure
  • Hiccups
  • Changes in liver test results (without symptoms)
  • Dizziness
  • Temporary blurred vision or vision problems
  • Temporary loss of sight
  • Severe skin rash with blistering and peeling (like toxic epidermal necrolysis)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Zofran Zydis if you are allergic to ondansetron or similar medicines, or if you are taking apomorphine (for Parkinson's disease).
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart problems (like an uneven heartbeat), gut problems, or liver disease before taking this medicine.
  • Get medical help right away if you experience sudden chest pain or a tight feeling in your chest while taking Zofran Zydis or after.
  • Zofran Zydis is not recommended during the first 3 months of pregnancy or if you are breastfeeding. Discuss with your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding.
  • This medicine contains aspartame, which is a source of phenylalanine. This can be harmful if you have phenylketonuria (PKU).

  • This medicine contains benzyl alcohol, which may cause allergic reactions. For babies and young children, large amounts can cause serious side effects, so discuss with your doctor.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific cautions. May prolong the QT interval especially with other preparations prolonging QT. Take interactions into account. (updated 20.5.2024)
