How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor or nurse will decide the right amount of Zofran for you.

Method

Zofran is given as an injection into a vein or as a drip, usually by a doctor or nurse right before your treatment.

Important

Your doctor or nurse will determine the maximum daily dose for you based on your needs.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Feeling warm or flushing
  • Constipation (difficulty passing stool)
  • Local reactions at the injection site, like a burning feeling
RARE
  • Seizures (fits)
  • Movement problems
  • Irregular or slow heartbeat, sometimes causing sudden fainting
  • Low blood pressure
  • Hiccups
  • Higher liver enzyme levels (seen in blood tests, usually with no symptoms)
  • Dizziness, especially if the medicine is given quickly into a vein
  • Temporary blurred vision or problems with your eyesight, including temporary loss of sight
  • Widespread skin rash with blisters and peeling skin (severe allergic reaction)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Zofran if you are taking apomorphine (a medicine for Parkinson's disease).
  • Do not use Zofran if you are allergic to ondansetron or similar medicines (like granisetron or palonosetron), or any other ingredients in Zofran.
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart problems, like an irregular heartbeat.
  • Tell your doctor if you have problems with your bowels (like severe constipation).
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver disease, as your dose might need to be adjusted.

  • Zofran should not be used during the first three months of pregnancy as it might slightly increase the risk of cleft lip or palate in the baby. Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to be, or could become pregnant.
  • Seek medical help right away if you get sudden chest pain or a feeling of pressure in your chest during or after Zofran treatment.
