How to Use

Dosage

Always follow your doctor's instructions for the dose. It is usually taken once a day.

Method

Use the syringe provided. Shake the bottle, pull the medicine into the syringe, then give it directly into the mouth or onto a spoon. Can be taken with or without food.

Important

Do not exceed the daily dose your doctor has prescribed.

  • Kidney problems (e.g., kidney failure)
  • Abnormal heart rhythm (e.g., fast or irregular heartbeat)
  • Severe bowel inflammation (severe stomach pain, bloody diarrhea)
  • Hearing loss or deafness
  • Seizures
  • Worsening of muscle weakness (myasthenia gravis)
  • Low blood pressure
  • Inflammation of the pancreas (severe stomach pain)
  • Blood disorders (e.g., low blood platelets, anemia)
  • Agitation, anxiety, confusion, hallucinations
  • Ringing in ears
  • Sensitivity to light

Important Warnings

  • Do not give if your child is allergic to azithromycin or similar antibiotics.
  • Tell your doctor if your child has liver or kidney problems.
  • Inform your doctor about all other medicines your child is taking.
  • Contact your doctor if your child has severe, bloody, or long-lasting diarrhea.
  • Tell your doctor if your child has heart problems or an imbalance of salts in their body.

  • Tell your doctor if your child has myasthenia gravis (a muscle weakness condition).
  • Contact a doctor if a newborn (under 42 days old) vomits or is irritable after taking this medicine.
  • Do not take this medicine with antacids (stomach acid neutralizers). If needed, take antacids at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after Zithromax.
  • This medicine contains sugar. If your child has diabetes or cannot tolerate certain sugars, talk to your doctor.
