How to Use

Dosage

Adults: Typically 40-80 mg twice a day. Children (10-17 years old for bipolar disorder): Starting dose is 20 mg. Your doctor will adjust this.

Method

Swallow capsules whole with food, twice a day (usually with breakfast and dinner). Do not chew, crush, or open them. Take at the same time each day.

Important

Adults: Do not take more than 160 mg in total per day. Children (for bipolar disorder): Maximum 80 mg/day for children up to 45 kg, and 160 mg/day for children over 45 kg.

  • Inability to open mouth
  • Difficulty emptying bladder
  • Withdrawal symptoms in newborns
  • Impaired orgasm
  • Hot flashes
  • Decreased or increased white blood cell count (in blood test)
  • Raised and inflamed red skin patches with a white film (psoriasis)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to ziprasidone or any other ingredient. Signs of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling of the face or lips, or trouble breathing. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience these.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had heart problems (including a recent heart attack), are taking medicine for heart rhythm problems, or have a fast, irregular heartbeat, dizziness, or weakness when standing up. This medicine can affect your heart.
  • Tell your doctor if you or a family member has a history of blood clots, as this type of medicine can increase the risk of clots.
  • Be cautious if you have liver problems, a history of seizures or epilepsy, or if you are elderly (over 65) with dementia and a risk of stroke.
  • This medicine can make you sleepy, dizzy, and cause a drop in blood pressure when you stand up, which can lead to falls. Be careful, especially if you are elderly or not feeling well.

  • Do not use this medicine during pregnancy unless your doctor tells you to, as it might harm the baby. Do not breastfeed as the medicine can pass into breast milk.
  • If you feel drowsy, do not drive or use machines until the drowsiness has passed.
  • Inform your doctor if you are taking this medicine before any lab tests (like blood, urine, liver, or heart tests), as it can affect the results.
