How to Use

Dosage

The recommended dose for adults is 40–80 mg twice daily with meals.

Method

Take capsules whole with food, twice daily (one capsule with a hearty breakfast, one with an evening meal). Do not chew, crush, or open them.

Important

Do not exceed 160 mg per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Trouble sleeping, feeling very sleepy or tired during the day, headache.
  • Runny nose, feeling very energetic, strange thoughts, hyperactivity, feeling restless or anxious.
  • Unusual movements (like muscle stiffness, slow movements, or involuntary movements), dizziness, feeling sedated.
  • Blurred vision, high blood pressure, digestive problems (constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, indigestion), dry mouth, increased saliva.
  • Rash, male sexual problems, fever, pain, changes in weight (gain or loss), fatigue, general feeling of being unwell.
  • Increased appetite, panic attacks, nervousness, depression, decreased sex drive, passing out.
  • Difficulty controlling movements (tics, restless legs), tight feeling in throat, nightmares, seizures, uncontrolled eye movements, clumsiness, speech problems, numbness, tingling, difficulty concentrating, drooling.
  • Fast heartbeat, shortness of breath, sensitivity to light, dry eyes, ringing in ears, ear pain, sore throat, gas, stomach ache.
  • Itchy skin, acne, muscle cramps, stiff or swollen joints, thirst, chest pain, unusual way of walking.
  • Acid reflux, stomach pain, hair loss, unusual head position, trouble holding urine, painful or difficult urination.
  • Abnormal breast milk production, breast enlargement in men, missed periods, abnormal heart, blood, or liver test results.
RARE
  • Low calcium in blood, slowed thinking, lack of emotions, facial drooping, paralysis.
  • Partial or complete vision loss in one eye, itchy eyes, difficulty speaking, hiccups.
  • Loose stools, skin irritation, inability to open mouth, difficulty emptying bladder.
  • Newborn drug withdrawal syndrome (if mother used during pregnancy), weakened orgasm, feeling hot.
  • Changes in white blood cell count (low or high), red, inflamed skin patches with white scales (like psoriasis).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to ziprasidone or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have or have had heart problems, a recent heart attack, or take medicines for heart rhythm problems.
  • Inform your doctor if you or your family have had blood clots, as this medicine can increase the risk.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver disease, seizures, epilepsy, or if you are elderly (over 65) with dementia and at risk of stroke.
  • Inform your doctor if you have a slow heart rate or low salt levels due to severe diarrhea, vomiting, or diuretics.

  • Contact your doctor if you experience a fast or irregular heartbeat, weakness, fainting, or dizziness when standing up.
  • Seek immediate medical attention for severe skin reactions like blistering rash, mouth sores, skin peeling, fever, or target-like lesions, as these can be life-threatening.
  • This medicine can cause drowsiness, low blood pressure when standing, dizziness, and walking problems, increasing the risk of falls. Be careful, especially if you are elderly or unwell.
  • Do not drink alcohol during treatment, as it increases the risk of side effects.
  • Do not use if pregnant or breastfeeding unless your doctor tells you to, as it may harm the baby.
  • This medicine may cause drowsiness. Do not drive or operate machinery until drowsiness has passed.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you experience blood clot symptoms, especially in the legs (swelling, pain, redness), or chest pain and breathing difficulties (if clots travel to lungs).
