Ziprasidon Krka is an antipsychotic medicine used to treat schizophrenia in adults and manic or mixed episodes of bipolar disorder in adults, children, and adolescents.

How to Use

Dosage

Adults usually take 40-80 mg twice a day with meals. For children and adolescents (10-17 years) with bipolar disorder, the starting dose is 20 mg with food; the doctor will adjust it.

Method

Take capsules whole with food, do not chew, crush, or open them. Take one capsule with breakfast and one with dinner, at the same time each day.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is 160 mg. For children weighing 45 kg or less, the maximum is 80 mg daily; for those over 45 kg, it's 160 mg daily.

  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Feeling sleepy or very tired during the day
  • Headache
  • Runny nose
  • High energy, unusual thoughts, feeling too active, agitated, or anxious
  • Feeling restless
  • Unusual movements, like shaking, stiff muscles, or slow movements
  • Dizziness
  • Feeling calm or sleepy (sedation)
  • Blurred or poor eyesight
  • High blood pressure
  • Constipation, diarrhea, feeling sick (nausea), throwing up (vomiting), upset stomach, dry mouth, or more saliva than usual
  • Skin rash
  • Sexual problems in men
  • Fever
  • Pain
  • Losing or gaining weight
  • Feeling exhausted
  • General feeling of being unwell
RARE
  • High levels of a hormone called prolactin in the blood
  • Increased appetite
  • Panic attacks
  • Feeling nervous or depressed
  • Less interest in sex
  • Losing consciousness
  • Hard to control movements or involuntary jerking movements
  • Restless legs
  • Feeling a lump in the throat, nightmares
  • Seizures, involuntary eye movements, clumsiness, trouble speaking, numbness, tingling, trouble concentrating, drooling
  • Fast or pounding heartbeat, shortness of breath
  • Sensitivity to light, dry eyes, ringing in the ears, earache
  • Sore throat, gas, stomach pain
  • Itchy skin rash, acne
  • Muscle cramps, stiff or swollen joints
  • Feeling thirsty, chest pain, unusual way of walking
  • Heartburn, acid reflux
  • Hair loss
  • Abnormal head position
  • Trouble holding urine, painful or difficult urination
  • Unusual breast milk production
  • Breast enlargement in men
  • Missed periods
  • Abnormal results from heart or blood tests
  • Abnormal liver function test results
  • Spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • General weakness and tiredness

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to ziprasidone or any of its ingredients (signs include rash, itching, swelling of face/lips, trouble breathing).
  • Do not take if you have or have had heart problems, or a recent heart attack.
  • Do not take if you are taking medicines that affect your heart rhythm.
  • Talk to your doctor if you or your family have a history of blood clots, as this medicine can cause them.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have liver disease, seizures (epilepsy), or are elderly (over 65) with dementia.

  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience severe skin reactions such as blistering rash, skin peeling, fever, or target-like spots (Stevens-Johnson syndrome), which can be life-threatening.
  • This medicine can cause drowsiness, dizziness, and falls, especially if you are elderly or frail. Be careful when standing up and moving around.
  • Do not drink alcohol while taking this medicine, as it increases the risk of side effects.
  • Do not use if pregnant or breastfeeding unless your doctor says so. If you can become pregnant, use reliable contraception. Avoid driving or operating machines if you feel drowsy.
