How to Use

Dosage

Apply 5 grams of gel (one full applicator) into the vagina once a day.

Method

Use the gel only in the vagina. Wash your hands, fill the applicator, gently insert it into the vagina while lying down, push the plunger to release the gel, then remove and throw away the applicator. Do this at bedtime for five days, or as your doctor tells you.

Important

Do not use more than one full applicator (5 grams) per day.

  • Dark urine
  • Urinary tract infection (UTI) causing pain or burning when urinating, or needing to urinate more often or urgently
  • Swelling of the external genitals
  • Changes in periods, such as spotting, heavier bleeding between periods, or discomfort during periods
  • Itchy rash (hives)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to metronidazole, other similar antibacterial medicines (nitroimidazoles), parabens, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have ever had a blood disorder.
  • If you have a vaginal yeast infection, this medicine might make it worse. You might need another medicine to treat the yeast infection.
  • Do not use this medicine during your menstrual period.
  • This medicine can affect blood test results, so tell your doctor if you are having any blood tests.

  • Avoid using this medicine for a long time without your doctor's advice.
  • Avoid sexual intercourse during treatment with Zidoval gel.
  • Do not drink alcohol during treatment with Zidoval gel, as it can cause nausea, confusion, headache, or a fast heartbeat. If this happens, stop drinking and contact your doctor.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.
  • Zidoval gel contains ingredients that may cause allergic reactions or skin irritation, such as methyl parahydroxybenzoate, propyl parahydroxybenzoate, and propylene glycol.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. In topical use, there is absorption through mucous membranes and broken skin. Consider potential interactions especially with warfarin. (updated 21.10.2024)
