Zeldox is a medicine used to treat schizophrenia in adults and manic phases of bipolar disorder in adults and children aged 10-17.

How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose for adults is 40-80 mg twice a day.

Method

Take the capsules whole with food, twice a day: one in the morning and one in the evening. Do not chew, crush, or open the capsules. Always take the medicine at the same time each day.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 160 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Trouble sleeping or feeling sleepy during the day.
  • Headache.
  • Runny nose.
  • Feeling very energetic, restless, anxious, or having strange thoughts.
  • Unusual movements, such as involuntary movements, stiff or slow movements.
  • Dizziness or feeling lightheaded.
  • Blurred or reduced vision.
  • High blood pressure.
  • Constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, or stomach problems, dry mouth or increased saliva.
  • Skin rash.
  • Sexual problems in men.
  • Fever or pain.
  • Weight loss or gain.
  • Fatigue or general feeling of being unwell.
RARE
  • High levels of the hormone prolactin in the blood.
  • Increased appetite.
  • Panic attacks, nervousness, depression, or reduced sex drive.
  • Loss of consciousness.
  • Difficulty controlling movements, restless legs, tight feeling in the throat, nightmares.
  • Seizures, uncontrolled eye movements, clumsiness, speech problems, numbness, tingling, difficulty concentrating, or drooling.
  • Pounding heart or shortness of breath.
  • Sensitivity to light, dry eyes, ringing in the ears, or ear pain.
  • Sore throat, gas, or stomach pain.
  • Itching, acne, muscle cramps, stiff or swollen joints.
  • Thirst, chest pain, unusual walking, heartburn, or stomach upset.
  • Hair loss or unusual head position.
  • Difficulty holding urine, painful or difficult urination.
  • Unusual breast milk production or breast growth in men.
  • Missed periods.
  • Abnormal blood, heart, or liver test results.
  • Slow thinking or lack of feelings.
  • Drooping face or paralysis.
  • Partial or complete loss of vision in one eye or itchy eyes.
  • Difficulty speaking or hiccups.
  • Loose stools, skin irritation, or inability to open mouth.
  • Difficulty emptying the bladder.
  • Withdrawal symptoms in newborns.
  • Weakened orgasm or hot flashes.
  • Reduced or increased white blood cell count.
  • Psoriasis (raised, inflamed red skin patches with white scales).
  • Blood clots (for example, in the legs, which can travel to the lungs and cause chest pain and breathing difficulties).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Zeldox if you are allergic to ziprasidone or any other ingredient in this medicine. Allergic reactions can include rash, itching, facial swelling, or breathing difficulties.
  • Do not use Zeldox if you have heart problems, have had a recent heart attack, or are taking medicines that affect heart rhythm.
  • Tell your doctor if you or anyone in your family has had blood clots, as this medicine may increase the risk.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver disease.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had seizures or epilepsy.

  • Seek immediate medical attention if you develop severe skin reactions, such as blistering rash, mouth sores, peeling skin, or fever, as these can be life-threatening.
  • Zeldox can cause drowsiness, dizziness, or low blood pressure when standing up, which may lead to falls. Be especially careful if you are elderly or frail.
  • Do not drink alcohol during Zeldox treatment, as it increases the risk of side effects.
  • Do not use Zeldox during pregnancy unless specifically instructed by your doctor, as it may harm the baby.
  • Do not breastfeed while taking Zeldox, as the medicine can pass into breast milk.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery if Zeldox makes you drowsy until the feeling passes.
