How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose for adults and children over 12 is one 500 mg tablet once a day for 6–14 days; for severe infections, your doctor might increase the dose to two 500 mg tablets taken at the same time.

Method

Take the tablet with food, swallow it whole without chewing, and take it at the same time each day throughout the entire treatment period.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to clarithromycin, other macrolide antibiotics (like erythromycin or azithromycin), or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take with certain other medicines like ergot alkaloids (for migraines), midazolam (for anxiety or sleep), astemizole or terfenadine (for allergies), cisapride or domperidone (for stomach problems), or pimozide (for mental health conditions), as this can cause serious heart rhythm problems.
  • Do not take if you have abnormally low potassium or magnesium levels in your blood, severe liver or kidney problems, or certain heart rhythm disorders (like prolonged QT syndrome or ventricular arrhythmia).
  • Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have heart disease, or if your kidney or liver function is reduced.
  • Do not stop taking the medicine early, even if you feel better, as the infection may not be fully cured and could return.

  • Seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe or prolonged diarrhea with blood or mucus, signs of an allergic reaction (rash, difficulty breathing, swelling of face/throat, fainting), signs of liver problems (loss of appetite, yellow skin, dark urine, itching, stomach tenderness), severe skin reactions (blisters, peeling skin), or muscle pain/weakness (rhabdomyolysis).

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D
