How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose based on your body size and overall health.

Method

Zanosar is given as a drip (infusion) into a vein by a healthcare professional. The infusion takes 30 minutes to 4 hours.

Important

Your doctor will determine your maximum daily dose, which is given over several days during each treatment cycle.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Severe nausea and vomiting, sometimes leading to stopping treatment. Diarrhea has also been reported.
  • Worsening kidney function (kidney failure), which can be serious.
RARE
  • Blood problems (hematological toxicity), usually meaning fewer red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. This can also increase your risk of infections.
  • Sugar intolerance (effects on blood sugar levels), usually mild to moderate and temporary.
  • Confusion, drowsiness, depression.
  • Kidney-related diabetes insipidus (kidneys can't concentrate urine).
  • Liver toxicity (harm to the liver): increased liver enzymes, abnormally low albumin in the blood.
  • Injection site reactions: tissue damage if the medicine leaks outside the vein. Burning sensation extending from the injection site to the arm.
  • Fever.

Important Warnings

  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems, as this medicine can harm your kidneys. Your kidney function will be checked with blood and urine tests before, during, and after treatment.
  • This medicine can also affect your liver and bone marrow. Your liver function will be checked regularly.
  • Zanosar can cause severe nausea and vomiting. Your doctor can give you medicine to help with this.
  • Do not use Zanosar if you are allergic to streptozocin or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use Zanosar if you have severe kidney failure.

  • Do not use Zanosar with certain live or weakened live vaccines.
  • Do not use Zanosar if you are breastfeeding.
  • Men and women must use effective contraception during and after treatment. Men for 90 days after treatment, and women for 30 days after treatment.
  • This medicine can make you feel confused, sleepy, or depressed, so do not drive or use machines if you experience these effects.
