How to Use

Dosage

Usually 10 mg once a day in the morning.

Method

Take the tablets whole with water, at least 15 minutes before breakfast. The 10 mg tablet has a score line to help you swallow it, not to divide the dose. The 20 mg tablet can be divided.

Important

Your doctor may increase the dose to a maximum of 20 mg per day.

Possible Side Effects

  • Palpitations (feeling your heart beat fast or unevenly)
  • Sudden redness of the face, neck, or chest
  • Swelling of the ankles
  • Dizziness
  • Low blood pressure
  • Heartburn
  • Nausea (feeling sick)
  • Stomach pain
  • Rash
  • Itching
  • Muscle pain
  • Increased urine output
  • Weakness
  • Tiredness
RARE
  • Angina pectoris (chest pain due to heart not getting enough blood)
  • Allergic reactions (like itching, rash, or hives)
  • Fainting
  • Drowsiness (feeling very sleepy)
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Increased urge to urinate often
  • Chest pain

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Zanidip if you are allergic to lercanidipine hydrochloride or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have certain severe heart conditions, such as untreated heart failure, chest pain at rest (unstable angina), or if you've had a heart attack within the last month.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver or kidney disease, or if you are on dialysis.
  • Do not use if you are taking certain medicines that affect liver function, such as some antifungal medicines, macrolide antibiotics, or antiviral medicines, or if you are taking cyclosporine.
  • Do not take Zanidip with grapefruit or grapefruit juice. Avoid alcohol while using this medicine.

  • Zanidip is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Ask your doctor for advice if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant.
  • This medicine should not be given to children under 18 years of age.
  • If you feel dizzy, weak, or sleepy, do not drive or operate machinery.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Do not use in severe renal impairment. Significant adverse effects include ankle oedema and orthostatic hypotension. Consider potential interactions. Avoid grapefruit. (updated 17.2.2025)
