How to Use

Dosage

Take one Yaz tablet every day.

Method

Take the tablet with or without food, around the same time each day. Start with pink tablets for 24 days, then white tablets for 4 days. Begin a new pack right after finishing the previous one, with no break days.

Important

One active tablet per day.

Possible Side Effects

  • Depression, nervousness, or sleep problems
  • Dizziness or tingling sensation
  • Migraine or high blood pressure
  • Stomach pain, vomiting, or diarrhea
  • Acne or rash
  • Body aches or muscle cramps
  • Vaginal yeast infection, pelvic pain, or breast enlargement
  • Fluid retention or weight changes (gain or loss)
  • Abnormal blood tests (e.g., potassium, sodium, blood platelets)
  • Eye problems (e.g., eyelid inflammation, dry eyes)
  • Fast heartbeat, nosebleeds, or fainting
  • Liver or gallbladder pain
  • Skin discoloration or hair loss
  • Painful sex or changes in periods (other than irregular)
  • Serious blood clots in legs, lungs, heart, or brain

Important Warnings

  • Yaz increases your risk of blood clots. This risk is highest in the first year of use or if you restart after a break of 4 weeks or more.
  • Do not use Yaz if you have ever had a blood clot in your legs, lungs, or other organs, or if you have had a heart attack or stroke.
  • Tell your doctor if you are having surgery or will be on bed rest for a long time, as you may need to stop Yaz temporarily.
  • Do not use Yaz if you have severe diabetes with blood vessel damage, very high blood pressure, very high blood fat levels, or a condition called hyperhomocysteinemia.
  • Do not use Yaz if you have a liver disease, kidney problems, a liver tumor, or breast or genital cancer.

  • Do not use Yaz if you have unexplained vaginal bleeding or are allergic to any ingredients in Yaz.
  • Yaz does not protect against HIV (AIDS) or other sexually transmitted infections.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you notice swelling of the face, tongue, or throat, or have trouble swallowing or breathing, which could be signs of a serious allergic reaction called angioedema.
