How to Use

Dosage

One 25 mg tablet.

Method

Take one tablet once daily after a meal, at approximately the same time each day.

Important

One 25 mg tablet per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • depression
  • difficulty sleeping
  • headache
  • hot flushes
  • dizziness
  • nausea
  • increased sweating
  • muscle and joint pain (including arthritis, back pain, and joint stiffness)
  • fatigue
  • decrease in white blood cell count in blood
  • abdominal pain
  • increased liver enzymes
  • increased levels of hemoglobin breakdown products in blood
  • increased enzyme levels due to liver damage
  • pain
  • loss of appetite
  • carpal tunnel syndrome (tingling, numbness, and pain in the whole hand, excluding the little finger) or skin tingling/prickling
  • vomiting, constipation, indigestion, diarrhea
  • hair loss
  • rash, hives, and itching
  • thinning of bones, which can make bones fragile (osteoporosis) and sometimes lead to fractures
  • swelling of hands and feet, muscle weakness
  • decrease in platelet count in blood
RARE
  • hypersensitivity
  • blistering of small vesicles on rash area
  • drowsiness
  • hepatitis (liver inflammation)
  • inflammation of liver bile ducts causing yellowing of the skin (jaundice)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Xemestan if you are allergic to exemestane or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take Xemestan if you still have your periods (you have not yet gone through menopause).
  • Do not take Xemestan if you are pregnant, might become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
  • Tell your doctor before taking Xemestan if you have liver or kidney problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had or currently have any condition affecting your bone strength. Your doctor may want to measure your bone density.

  • Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking other medicines, including over-the-counter ones. Xemestan should not be used at the same time as hormone replacement therapy.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking rifampicin (an antibiotic), carbamazepine or phenytoin (epilepsy medicines), or St. John's Wort herbal products (for depression).
  • If you experience drowsiness, dizziness, or weakness during Xemestan treatment, do not drive or use machines.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you develop symptoms such as general malaise, nausea, yellowing of the skin or eyes, itching, abdominal pain, or loss of appetite, which may indicate hypersensitivity or liver problems.
