How to Use

Dosage

Start with 0.5 mg. The usual dose is 0.5-4 mg per day, taken once or twice a day.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole. Do not chew, crush, or split it.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 4 mg.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to alprazolam, benzodiazepines, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have severe muscle weakness (myasthenia gravis), severe breathing problems, severe sleep apnea, or severe liver problems.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have kidney or liver problems, breathing issues, or are elderly.
  • Elderly patients should use this medicine with caution due to an increased risk of sleepiness, muscle weakness, and falls.
  • This medicine is not recommended for children or teenagers under 18 years of age.

  • Do not drink alcohol while taking this medicine, as it can make you very sleepy and increase its effects.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant.
  • This medicine can make you sleepy, dizzy, or less focused, so be careful when driving or using machines.
  • Tell your doctor about all other medicines you take, especially strong pain relievers (opioids), sleeping pills, antidepressants, or other medicines that affect your brain. Taking Xanor Depot with opioids can be dangerous.
  • This medicine contains a small amount of lactose. Talk to your doctor if you have an intolerance to some sugars.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Sedative. A long-acting. Increases the risk of drug addiction, cognitive disorder and traffic accidents. Increases risk of falls. Paradoxically, may increase anxiety, restlessness and aggression. (updated 15.1.2024)
