How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 0.25-0.5 mg three times a day. The normal daily dose is 0.5-4 mg, divided into several doses.

Take Xanor tablets exactly as your doctor has told you.

Important

Your doctor will decide your maximum daily dose; older or frail patients should take the lowest possible dose.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Xanor if you are allergic to alprazolam, similar medicines (benzodiazepines), or any other ingredients in Xanor.
  • Do not use if you have severe muscle weakness (myasthenia gravis), severe breathing problems, sleep apnea (breathing stops during sleep), or severe liver problems.
  • Talk to your doctor before taking Xanor if you have liver or kidney problems, breathing difficulties, are generally unwell, or are elderly.
  • Xanor is not recommended for children and young people under 18 years old.
  • Do not drink alcohol while taking Xanor, as it can make the medicine's calming and central nervous system effects much stronger.

  • Xanor can make you tired, affect your memory, concentration, and muscle function, which can impact your ability to drive or use machines. Be careful with tasks requiring alertness.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, think you might be pregnant, or are planning a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Sedative. A long-acting. Increases the risk of drug addiction, cognitive disorder and traffic accidents. Increases risk of falls. Paradoxically, may increase anxiety, restlessness and aggression. (updated 15.1.2024)
