WILFACTIN is a medicine made from human plasma that replaces missing von Willebrand factor to help blood clot in patients with von Willebrand disease and to prevent or treat bleeding.

How to Use

Dosage

Typically 40-80 IU/kg, adjusted by a doctor based on your condition. For long-term prevention, 40-60 IU/kg two to three times a week. Children under 6 may need up to 100 IU/kg.

Administered as an intravenous injection.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to human von Willebrand factor or any other ingredients in WILFACTIN, or if you have hemophilia A.
  • Treatment must always be supervised by a doctor experienced in treating bleeding disorders.
  • There is a risk of blood clots (thrombosis), especially if you have known risk factors; your doctor will monitor you closely for early signs and may start preventive treatment.
  • Severe allergic reactions (hypersensitivity, anaphylaxis) can occur. If you experience any signs of an allergic reaction (e.g., difficulty breathing, rash, chest tightness), stop treatment immediately and seek medical help.
  • Because this medicine is made from human blood, there is a small risk of virus transmission. Your doctor may recommend hepatitis A and B vaccinations if you use WILFACTIN regularly.

  • In some patients with von Willebrand disease, especially type 3, the body may develop inhibitors that make the medicine less effective. Your doctor will monitor you for this.
