How to Use

Dosage

For adults under 65, the usual dose is 10 mg once a day. For adults 65 and older, the starting dose is 5 mg once a day. Your doctor might change your dose.

Method

Take one tablet with a glass of water. You can take it with or without food.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 20 mg.

RARE
  • Flushing
  • Night sweats
  • Blurred vision
  • Tremor (involuntary shaking)
  • Dilated pupils, which may increase the risk of glaucoma.
  • Low sodium in the blood (symptoms may include dizziness, weakness, confusion, severe tiredness, feeling unwell, nausea; more severe symptoms include fainting, seizures, or falls).
  • Serotonin syndrome (symptoms can include hallucinations, muscle twitching, fast heartbeat, high blood pressure, fever, nausea, and diarrhea).
  • Severe allergic reactions (swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, difficulty breathing or swallowing, and/or a sudden drop in blood pressure).
  • Hives
  • Excessive or unexplained bleeding (including bruises, nosebleeds, bleeding from the stomach or intestines, and vaginal bleeding).
  • Rash
  • Sleep disturbances (insomnia)
  • Agitation and aggression
  • Headache
  • Increased levels of a hormone called prolactin in the blood
  • Restlessness (constant need to move, akathisia)
  • Teeth grinding (bruxism)
  • Inability to open mouth (lockjaw/trismus)
  • Restless legs syndrome (an urge to move the legs to stop painful or uncomfortable feelings, often at night).
  • Abnormal milk secretion from the breast (galactorrhea)
  • Increased risk of sexual problems
  • Increased risk of bone fractures

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to vortioxetine or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you are using certain other medicines for depression called MAOIs.
  • Talk to your doctor if you are taking other medicines like strong pain relievers (e.g., tramadol) or migraine medicines ("triptans"), as this can cause a serious condition called serotonin syndrome.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had seizures or epilepsy.
  • Tell your doctor if you bruise or bleed easily.

  • Tell your doctor if you have high eye pressure or glaucoma. If you have eye pain or blurred vision during treatment, contact your doctor.
  • This medicine may cause feelings of aggression, agitation, anger, or irritability. Talk to your doctor if this happens.
  • If you have thoughts of harming yourself or feel your depression is getting worse, contact your doctor or go to a hospital immediately. This is especially important for young adults.
  • This medicine is not for children or teenagers under 18.
  • Avoid alcohol while taking this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to get pregnant, or breastfeeding. This medicine should not be used during pregnancy unless absolutely necessary, and not during breastfeeding.
  • Be careful when driving or using machines, especially when starting treatment or changing dose, as dizziness may occur.
