How to Use

Dosage

For adults under 65, the usual dose is 10 mg once daily. Your doctor may adjust this between 5 mg and 20 mg daily. For adults 65 and older, the starting dose is 5 mg once daily.

Method

Take the tablet with a glass of water, with or without food.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 20 mg.

  • Flushing

  • Dilated pupils, which may increase the risk of glaucoma
  • Low sodium levels in the blood (symptoms: dizziness, weakness, confusion, sleepiness, severe tiredness, nausea; in more severe cases, fainting, seizures, or falls)
  • Serotonin syndrome (confusion, rapid heartbeat, high blood pressure, fever, nausea, diarrhea, sudden muscle jerks)
  • Severe allergic reactions (swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing or swallowing, and/or sudden drop in blood pressure causing dizziness or fainting)
  • Hives
  • Unusual bleeding (including bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding from the stomach/intestines or vagina)
  • Rash
  • Sleep disturbances (insomnia)
  • Agitation and aggression
  • Headache
  • Increased levels of prolactin hormone in blood
  • Constant need to move (akathisia)
  • Teeth grinding (bruxism)
  • Difficulty opening mouth (trismus)
  • Restless legs syndrome
  • Abnormal milk discharge from breasts

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to vortioxetine or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you are using other antidepressant medicines called MAOIs.
  • Be careful if taking other medicines that affect serotonin, like strong pain relievers (tramadol) or migraine medicines (triptans), as they can cause a serious condition called serotonin syndrome.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had seizures or epilepsy. If you have a seizure while taking this medicine, stop taking it and contact your doctor.
  • Tell your doctor if you easily bleed or bruise, or if you are pregnant.

  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had high eye pressure (glaucoma). If you get eye pain or blurry vision, contact your doctor.
  • If you feel aggressive, restless, angry, or irritable, contact your doctor. Suicidal thoughts may increase when you start this medicine. Contact your doctor immediately if you have thoughts of harming yourself.
  • Do not drink alcohol while taking this medicine.
  • Do not use if pregnant unless absolutely necessary and advised by your doctor. Do not use while breastfeeding.
  • This medicine is not for children or adolescents under 18 years old.
  • Be careful when driving or using machines, especially at the start of treatment or when your dose changes, as dizziness has been reported.
