How to Use

Dosage

For adults under 65, the usual dose is 10 mg once a day. Your doctor might change your dose between 5 mg and 20 mg daily. For adults 65 and older, the starting dose is 5 mg once a day.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. You can take it with or without food.

Important

The highest dose you can take in one day is 20 mg.

  • Unexplained bleeding (including bruises, nosebleeds, stomach/intestinal, and vaginal bleeding)
  • Skin rash
  • Sleep disturbances (insomnia)
  • Agitation and aggression
  • Headache
  • Increased prolactin levels in blood
  • Constant need to move (akathisia)
  • Teeth grinding (bruxism)
  • Inability to open mouth (trismus/lockjaw)
  • Restless legs syndrome
  • Abnormal milk secretion from the breast (galactorrhea)
  • Increased risk of bone fractures
  • Sexual dysfunction

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to vortioxetine or any other ingredients.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are currently using other specific antidepressants called MAOIs.
  • Tell your doctor if you take other medicines that affect serotonin, as this could cause a serious condition called serotonin syndrome (symptoms include hallucinations, muscle twitching, fast heartbeat, high blood pressure, fever, nausea, and diarrhea).
  • Tell your doctor if you have ever had seizures; stop taking this medicine if seizures start or get worse.
  • Inform your doctor if you have a history of mania.

  • Tell your doctor if you bruise or bleed easily, or if you are pregnant, as this medicine may increase the risk of bleeding.
  • Tell your doctor if you have low sodium levels in your blood.
  • Inform your doctor if you are 65 years or older.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe kidney or liver problems.
  • Inform your doctor if you have or have had high eye pressure (glaucoma); contact your doctor immediately if you experience eye pain or blurred vision during treatment.
  • This medicine may cause feelings of aggression, agitation, anger, or irritability; talk to your doctor if you experience these.
  • If you have thoughts of harming yourself, contact your doctor or go to the hospital right away.
  • This medicine is not for children or teenagers under 18 years old.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine without talking to your doctor first.
