How to Use

Dosage

For adults under 65, the usual dose is 10 mg once daily. For those 65 and older, the starting dose is 5 mg once daily. Your doctor may adjust your dose between 5 mg and 20 mg per day.

Method

Take the tablet with a glass of water, with or without food. If you cannot swallow the tablet whole, other forms of vortioxetine may be available.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 20 mg.

  • Dilated pupils (mydriasis), which may increase the risk of glaucoma
  • Low sodium levels in the blood, causing symptoms like dizziness, weakness, confusion, drowsiness, severe tiredness, feeling unwell, nausea, fainting, seizures, or falls.
  • Serotonin syndrome
  • Allergic reactions (including swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing or swallowing, sudden drop in blood pressure, dizziness, hives)
  • Excessive or unexplained bleeding (including bruising, nosebleeds, gastrointestinal bleeding, vaginal bleeding)
  • Rash
  • Sleep disturbances (insomnia)
  • Agitation and aggression
  • Headache
  • Increased levels of the hormone prolactin in the blood
  • Restlessness (akathisia)
  • Teeth grinding (bruxism)
  • Inability to open mouth (trismus)
  • Restless legs syndrome (an urge to move legs to stop painful or uncomfortable feelings, often at night)
  • Abnormal milk discharge from the breast (galactorrhea)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to vortioxetine or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you are currently taking or have recently taken certain other antidepressants called MAOIs (monoamine oxidase inhibitors).
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking other medicines that affect serotonin, like tramadol or 'triptans', as this can increase the risk of serotonin syndrome (symptoms include hallucinations, muscle twitching, fast heartbeat, high blood pressure, fever, nausea, diarrhea).
  • Talk to your doctor if you have ever had seizures (fits) or have a condition that causes them.
  • Tell your doctor if you bruise easily or bleed more than usual.

  • Talk to your doctor if you have had mania.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have or have had high eye pressure or glaucoma. If you experience eye pain or blurred vision during treatment, contact your doctor.
  • If you feel aggressive, agitated, angry, or irritable during treatment, tell your doctor.
  • If you have thoughts of harming yourself or suicide, contact a doctor or go to a hospital immediately.
  • This medicine is not for children or adolescents under 18 years old.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant unless your doctor says it is absolutely necessary.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are breastfeeding.
  • It is not recommended to use this medicine with alcohol.
  • Be careful when driving or operating machinery, especially at the start of treatment or when your dose changes, as dizziness has been reported.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine without talking to your doctor first.
