How to Use

Dosage

For adults under 65, the usual dose is 10 mg once a day. Your doctor might adjust it between 5 mg and 20 mg daily. If you are 65 or older, the starting dose is 5 mg once a day.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. You can take it with or without food.

Important

The highest daily dose is 20 mg.

  • Hallucinations (seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there)
  • Dilated pupils (mydriasis), which may increase the risk of glaucoma.
  • Low sodium in the blood (symptoms may include dizziness, weakness, confusion, drowsiness, severe tiredness, nausea, vomiting; more serious symptoms include fainting, seizures, or falls).
  • Serotonin syndrome (see warnings).
  • Severe allergic reactions (e.g., swelling of face/lips/tongue/throat, difficulty breathing/swallowing, sudden drop in blood pressure).
  • Hives
  • Excessive or unexplained bleeding (including bruising, nosebleeds, and bleeding from the stomach/intestines or vagina).
  • Rash
  • Sleep disturbances (insomnia)
  • Agitation and aggression.
  • Headache
  • Increased levels of a hormone called prolactin in the blood.
  • Inability to sit still (akathisia)
  • Teeth grinding (bruxism)
  • Inability to open mouth (trismus)
  • Restless legs syndrome (an urge to move legs to stop unpleasant sensations, often at night).
  • Abnormal milk secretion from the breast (galactorrhea).
  • Increased risk of bone fractures.
  • Increased risk of sexual dysfunction.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to vortioxetine or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you are currently using certain other antidepressants called MAO inhibitors.
  • Tell your doctor if you take other medicines that affect serotonin (e.g., strong pain relievers, migraine medicines ending in "-triptan"), as this may increase the risk of serotonin syndrome (symptoms like hallucinations, fast heartbeat, high blood pressure, fever, nausea, and diarrhea).
  • Discuss with your doctor if you have a history of seizures or have unstable epilepsy.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had mania.

  • Inform your doctor if you bleed or bruise easily, or if you are pregnant, as this medicine can increase the risk of bleeding.
  • Tell your doctor if you have low sodium levels in your blood.
  • If you are 65 years old or older, discuss your dosage with your doctor.
  • Inform your doctor if you have severe kidney or liver disease.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had high eye pressure (glaucoma) or blurred vision during treatment.
  • Contact your doctor if you experience feelings of aggression, agitation, anger, or irritability while taking this medicine.
  • This medicine can increase thoughts of self-harm or suicide, especially in young adults; seek medical help immediately if this happens.
  • Vortioxetine Krka is not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years of age.
  • Avoid alcohol while taking this medicine.
  • Do not use during pregnancy unless your doctor says it is absolutely necessary.
  • Do not use while breastfeeding.
