How to Use

Dosage

For adults under 65, the usual dose is 10 mg once a day, but your doctor may change it between 5 mg and 20 mg daily. For people over 65, the starting dose is 5 mg once a day.

Method

Take the tablet with a glass of water, with or without food.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 20 mg.

  • Dilated pupils (this can increase the risk of glaucoma)
  • Low sodium levels in the blood, causing symptoms like dizziness, weakness, confusion, sleepiness, severe tiredness, upset stomach, or nausea; more severe symptoms can include fainting, seizures, or falls.
  • Serotonin syndrome (symptoms can include hallucinations, fast heartbeat, fever, sweating, shaking, muscle twitching, confusion, agitation).
  • Severe allergic reactions (swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing or swallowing, sudden drop in blood pressure which can make you feel dizzy).
  • Hives (itchy rash).
  • Heavy or unexplained bleeding (including bruises, nosebleeds, and bleeding from the stomach, intestines, or vagina).
  • Skin rash
  • Sleep problems (insomnia).
  • Agitation and aggression (if these occur, contact your doctor).
  • Headache
  • Increased levels of a hormone called prolactin in the blood.
  • Restlessness or an urge to move (akathisia).
  • Teeth grinding (bruxism).
  • Difficulty opening the mouth (trismus).
  • Restless legs syndrome (an irresistible urge to move the legs to stop uncomfortable feelings, often at night).
  • Abnormal breast milk production (galactorrhea).
  • Increased risk of bone fractures.
  • Sexual dysfunction (may occur with higher doses, or sometimes with lower doses).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to vortioxetine or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you are taking other antidepressants called MAOIs (monoamine oxidase inhibitors) or selective MAO-A inhibitors; ask your doctor if you are unsure.
  • Be careful if you take medicines like tramadol (strong pain relievers) or triptans (for migraines), as combining them with this medicine can increase the risk of serotonin syndrome, which can cause hallucinations, fast heartbeat, and fever.
  • Tell your doctor if you have ever had seizures or have an unstable seizure disorder; your doctor will be extra careful. If you get a seizure, stop taking the medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had mania before.

  • Tell your doctor if you bruise or bleed easily.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had high eye pressure or glaucoma. If you experience eye pain and blurred vision during treatment, contact your doctor.
  • If you feel aggressive, agitated, angry, or irritable while taking this medicine, talk to your doctor.
  • If you feel depressed or anxious, you may sometimes have thoughts of harming yourself or committing suicide. These thoughts may get stronger when you first start taking this medicine. Contact your doctor or go to a hospital right away if you have such thoughts.
  • Do not use this medicine during pregnancy unless your doctor says it is absolutely necessary. Do not use this medicine while breastfeeding.
  • Be careful when driving or using machines, especially when starting treatment or changing dose, as you might feel dizzy.
