How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine your dose based on your weight and infection. Typically, adults receive a loading dose of 6 mg per kg every 12 hours for the first day, followed by a maintenance dose of 4 mg per kg twice daily. Doses for children vary by age and weight.

Method

This medicine is given as a slow drip into a vein (intravenous infusion) over 1 to 3 hours, at a maximum rate of 3 mg per kg per hour.

Important

The maximum daily dose for maintenance is typically 8 mg per kg (4 mg/kg given twice daily) for adults. Your doctor will adjust the dose as needed.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Vision changes, such as blurred vision, altered color vision, or increased sensitivity to light
  • Fever
  • Rash
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
  • Headache
  • Swelling in arms and legs
  • Abdominal pain
  • Difficulty breathing
  • High liver enzyme levels in blood tests
  • Sinus infection, gum inflammation, chills, weakness
  • Low numbers of red or white blood cells, or platelets (cells that help blood clot)
  • Low blood sugar, low potassium or sodium in blood
  • Anxiety, depression, confusion, agitation, trouble sleeping, hallucinations
  • Seizures, tremors, uncontrolled muscle movements, tingling or unusual skin sensations, increased muscle tone, drowsiness, dizziness
  • Bleeding in the eye
  • Heart rhythm problems (very fast or very slow heart rate), fainting
  • Low blood pressure, vein inflammation (which can cause blood clots)
  • Sudden difficulty breathing, chest pain, swelling of the face (mouth, lips, and around eyes), fluid in the lungs
  • Constipation, indigestion, lip inflammation
  • Yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice), liver inflammation, liver damage
  • Skin rashes that can be severe, including blistering and peeling, flat red areas with small bumps, or general skin redness
  • Itching
  • Hair loss
  • Back pain
  • Kidney failure, blood in urine, abnormal kidney function test results
  • Reactions at the infusion site
  • Allergic reactions or a stronger immune response
RARE
  • Flu-like symptoms, digestive tract irritation, inflammation of lymph vessels, or diarrhea due to antibiotics
  • Inflammation of the lining inside the abdomen and organs
  • Swollen lymph nodes (sometimes painful), bone marrow not producing enough blood cells, increased eosinophils (a type of white blood cell)
  • Adrenal glands not working well (adrenal insufficiency), or underactive thyroid
  • Abnormal brain activity, symptoms similar to Parkinson's disease, or nerve damage (numbness, pain, tingling, burning in hands/feet)
  • Balance problems, or difficulty with muscle coordination
  • Brain swelling
  • Double vision, severe eye problems (including eye/eyelid pain/inflammation), abnormal eye movements, optic nerve damage (vision loss), or swelling of the optic disc
  • Reduced sense of touch, distorted taste, hearing difficulties, ringing in ears, or vertigo (spinning sensation)
  • Inflammation of internal organs (like the pancreas and small intestine), or swelling and inflammation of the tongue
  • Enlarged liver, liver failure, gallbladder disease, or gallstones
  • Joint inflammation, or inflammation of veins under the skin (with possible blood clot formation)
  • Kidney inflammation, protein in urine, or kidney damage
  • Very fast heart rate or skipped heartbeats with irregular electrical signals
  • Abnormal heart tracing (ECG)
  • High blood cholesterol, or high blood urea
  • Severe allergic skin reactions (including life-threatening skin diseases with painful blisters/sores), hives, severe sun reaction, skin discoloration (red/purple), eczema, or rapid swelling under the skin
  • Small, dry, flaky skin patches, sometimes thickened or with horn-like growths
  • Freckles and dark spots on skin
  • Skin cancer
  • Inflammation of tissue around bone
  • Red, scaly patches or ring-shaped skin lesions that might be a sign of an autoimmune disease (cutaneous lupus erythematosus)
  • Worsening brain function due to severe liver disease
  • Destruction of most optic nerve fibers, cloudy cornea, or involuntary eye movements
  • Blistering rash caused by sun exposure (bullous photosensitivity)
  • Immune system attacking parts of the peripheral nervous system
  • Life-threatening heart rhythm or conduction problems
  • Life-threatening allergic reaction
  • Blood clotting disorder

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to voriconazole or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Stop using Voriconazole Stada and contact your doctor immediately if you experience a rash, yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice), abnormal liver blood test results, or inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis).
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had liver problems or heart problems (like an irregular heartbeat or abnormal ECG). Your doctor will monitor these conditions.
  • This medicine can make your skin more sensitive to the sun. Avoid direct sunlight and always use high-factor sunscreen, even for children.
  • If you notice severe sunburn, a bad rash, skin blisters, or bone pain, inform your doctor right away.
