How to Use
Dosage
For the first 24 hours: 6 mg per kg of body weight every 12 hours. After the first 24 hours: 4 mg per kg of body weight twice a day.
Method
This medicine is given into a vein (intravenously) as a slow drip over 1 to 3 hours.
Important
The typical maximum daily maintenance dose after the first 24 hours is 8 mg per kg of body weight.
Possible Side Effects
COMMON
- •Vision changes (blurred vision, color changes, light sensitivity)
- •Fever
- •Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
- •Rash
- •Headache
- •Swelling in arms and legs
- •Stomach pain
- •Increased liver enzyme levels (seen in blood tests)
- •Low blood cell counts (red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets)
- •Anxiety, depression, confusion, or difficulty sleeping
- •Dizziness or drowsiness
- •Low blood pressure or abnormal heartbeat
- •Jaundice (yellow skin or eyes)
- •Hair loss
- •Kidney problems (e.g., blood in urine)
RARE
- •Severe allergic reactions (swelling of face, tongue, throat, severe rash, breathing problems)
- •Liver failure or severe kidney damage
- •Problems with the brain (confusion, memory issues, tremors)
- •Severe skin conditions (large blisters, peeling skin, dangerous rashes)
- •Pancreatitis (severe stomach pain, nausea, vomiting)
- •Serious heart rhythm problems (very fast or very slow heartbeat)
- •Bone pain or bone inflammation
Important Warnings
- Avoid sun exposure and use high SPF sunscreen, as your skin will be more sensitive to UV light. This applies to children too.
- Tell your doctor immediately if you get sunburn, a bad rash, blisters, or bone pain.
- Your doctor will check your liver and kidney function with blood tests.
- This medicine can cause blurred vision or sensitivity to light. If you experience these symptoms, do not drive or use machines.
- Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to voriconazole or any other ingredients.
