How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose based on your weight and type of infection. For adults, the typical initial dose is 6 mg per kg of body weight every 12 hours for the first 24 hours, followed by a maintenance dose of 4 mg per kg twice a day.

Method

This medicine is given as an infusion (drip) into a vein, typically over 1 to 3 hours, at a maximum rate of 3 mg per kg per hour.

Important

The typical maximum daily dose for adults is 8 mg per kg of body weight (4 mg/kg twice a day). Your doctor might adjust this dose.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Vision changes (like blurry vision, changes in color vision, or being sensitive to light)
  • Fever
  • Skin rash
  • Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
  • Headache
  • Swelling in your hands or feet
  • Stomach pain
  • Trouble breathing
  • Higher levels of liver enzymes (shown in blood tests)
RARE
  • Severe skin reactions, including painful blisters or peeling skin
  • Serious problems with liver or kidney function
  • Nerve damage, causing numbness or tingling in hands or feet
  • Heart rhythm problems (very fast or very slow heartbeat)
  • Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas)
  • Jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes)
  • Skin cancer (after long-term use)
  • Bone pain

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Vodask if you are allergic to voriconazole or any other ingredients. Tell your doctor if you have had an allergic reaction to other similar antifungal medicines.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver or heart problems. Your doctor may need to adjust your dose or monitor your condition closely.
  • Avoid strong sunlight and use high-SPF sunscreen during treatment, as your skin may become more sensitive to UV rays. This also applies to children.
  • If you experience severe sunburn, a bad rash, blisters, or bone pain, tell your doctor immediately. Long-term use might slightly increase the risk of skin cancer.
  • This medicine is not for children under 2 years of age.
