How to Use

Dosage

Loading dose: 6 mg per kilogram of body weight every 12 hours for the first 24 hours. Maintenance dose: 4 mg per kilogram of body weight twice daily. Your doctor might reduce the dose to 3 mg/kg twice daily based on how well the treatment works.

Method

The medicine is given as a slow drip into a vein (infusion) over 1 to 3 hours.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is typically 8 mg per kilogram of body weight during maintenance treatment.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • vision problems (like blurred vision, changes in color vision, sensitivity to light)
  • fever
  • rash
  • nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
  • headache
  • swelling in arms and legs
  • stomach pain
  • difficulty breathing
  • increased liver enzyme levels
RARE
  • low blood cell counts (red, white, or platelets)
  • changes in blood sugar or electrolyte levels (like potassium or sodium)
  • anxiety, confusion, depression, trouble sleeping, or hallucinations
  • seizures, shaking, tingling skin, or dizziness
  • problems with heart rhythm or blood pressure
  • severe skin rashes, blistering, or peeling skin
  • liver inflammation, yellowing of skin (jaundice)
  • kidney problems, changes in kidney tests

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to voriconazole or any other ingredients.
  • Avoid direct sunlight and use high-SPF sunscreen. Your skin may become more sensitive to UV light, which also applies to children.
  • Tell your doctor immediately if you experience sunburn, a severe rash or blisters, or bone pain while taking Vobanzl.
  • If you have liver disease, your doctor might give you a lower dose and will monitor your liver function with blood tests.
  • Inform your doctor if you have a heart muscle disease, irregular heartbeat, slow heart rate, or an abnormal ECG (a 'long QTc syndrome').

  • Vobanzl should not be given to children under 2 years old.
  • Do not use Vobanzl during pregnancy unless your doctor says so. Women who can become pregnant must use reliable birth control.
  • Vobanzl can cause blurred vision or sensitivity to light. If you have these symptoms, do not drive or use machinery.
