How to Use

Dosage

The recommended dose is three capsules. Take one capsule every other day: the first on day 1, the second on day 3, and the third on day 5.

Method

Take capsules on an empty stomach, at least one hour before your next meal. Do not crush or chew the capsules. Swallow the capsule with cold or lukewarm water (not hotter than 37°C) as quickly as possible after placing it in your mouth.

Important

Do not take more than one capsule on any given day. Follow the prescribed schedule of one capsule every other day.

  • Severe allergic reactions causing swelling of the face or throat, difficulty breathing, a drop in blood pressure, and fainting. Seek medical help immediately.

  • Feeling tired
  • Tingling sensation
  • Feeling dizzy
  • Joint or muscle pain

Important Warnings

  • This vaccine does not give full protection to everyone. Always practice good hygiene and be careful with food and drinks in areas where typhoid fever is common.
  • Do not give this vaccine to children younger than 5 years old, as the capsule is not suitable for this age group.
  • Do not take if you are allergic to Salmonella Typhi Ty21a or any other ingredient in this vaccine.
  • Do not take if you have had allergic reactions to Vivotif before.
  • Do not take if your immune system is weak for any reason, such as from birth, certain infections, or treatments like high-dose corticosteroids, cancer drugs, or radiation therapy.

  • Do not take if you currently have a high fever (over 38.5°C) or a bowel disease (e.g., diarrhea) until you have recovered.
  • If you are taking antibiotics, Vivotif may not work well. Take Vivotif at least 3 days after your last antibiotic dose.
  • Do not start malaria medication until 3 days after your last Vivotif dose, unless your doctor or pharmacist advises otherwise.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, think you might be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
  • Vivotif is not known to affect your ability to drive or use machines. However, do not drive or use machines if you feel unwell.
  • Vivotif contains lactose and sucrose. If you have a sugar intolerance, talk to your doctor before taking this medicine.
