Visanne is a medicine used to treat endometriosis, a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus, causing pain.

How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose for adults is one tablet per day.

Method

Take one tablet every day at roughly the same time, with enough liquid. When a pack is finished, start a new one without a break. Continue taking tablets even during your period.

Important

The maximum daily dose is one tablet.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Weight gain
  • Feeling down, trouble sleeping, nervousness, less interest in sex, or mood changes
  • Headache or migraine
  • Nausea, stomach pain, gas, bloated stomach, or vomiting
  • Acne or hair loss
  • Back pain
  • Breast tenderness, ovarian cysts, or hot flashes
  • Bleeding from the uterus/vagina, including spotting
  • Weakness or irritability
RARE
  • Anemia (low red blood cell count)
  • Weight loss or increased appetite
  • Anxiety, depression, or mood swings
  • Problems with the nervous system (like sweating) or trouble concentrating
  • Dry eyes
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Unusual circulation problems or fast heartbeat
  • Low blood pressure
  • Shortness of breath
  • Diarrhea, constipation, stomach discomfort, gut inflammation, or gum inflammation
  • Dry skin, too much sweating, severe full-body itching, male-pattern hair growth (hirsutism), brittle nails, dandruff, rash, abnormal hair growth, sensitivity to light, or skin color changes
  • Bone pain, muscle cramps, or a feeling of pain and/or heaviness in arms, hands, or legs
  • Urinary tract infection
  • Vaginal yeast infection, vaginal dryness, vaginal discharge, pelvic pain, inflammation of the genitals with discharge, or breast lumps
  • Swelling due to fluid retention

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Visanne if you have blood clots in your veins (e.g., in your legs or lungs).
  • Do not use Visanne if you have or have had a serious artery disease, like a heart attack, stroke, or severe chest pain (angina).
  • Do not use Visanne if you have diabetes with damaged blood vessels.
  • Do not use Visanne if you have or have had a severe liver disease, or if your liver values are not normal. Symptoms can include yellow skin and/or itching.
  • Do not use Visanne if you have or have had a liver tumor (benign or malignant).

  • Do not use Visanne if you have or have had a hormone-dependent cancer, such as breast cancer or cancer of the genitals, or if such a cancer is suspected.
  • Do not use Visanne if you have unexplained vaginal bleeding.
  • Do not use Visanne if you are allergic to dienogest or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Visanne is not a birth control pill. To avoid pregnancy, you must use condoms or other non-hormonal birth control methods.
  • Do not use any hormonal birth control methods (like the pill, patch, or ring) while taking Visanne.
  • Stop taking Visanne and contact your doctor right away if you notice signs of a blood clot. These signs include severe pain or swelling in a leg, sudden chest pain that may spread to your left arm, sudden shortness of breath, sudden cough without a clear reason, an unusual, severe, or long-lasting headache, problems with vision or speech, dizziness, fainting, weakness, or numbness in any part of your body.
