How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose for adults is 25-30 mg/m² (body surface area) once a week.

Method

This medicine is diluted and given as a slow injection into a vein over 5-10 minutes, or as an infusion (drip) over 20-30 minutes. The vein is flushed with at least 250 ml of isotonic solution afterwards.

Important

The maximum daily dose is not specified; the typical dose is 25-30 mg/m² per week.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Decrease in white blood cells, which may increase the risk of infection.
  • Decrease in red blood cells (anemia), which may cause tiredness.
  • Mouth or throat inflammation.
  • Nausea and vomiting (these symptoms can be reduced with medication).
  • Constipation.
  • Hair loss.
  • Swelling, tenderness, pain, and/or rash at the injection site.
  • Abnormal liver function test results without symptoms.
  • Weakening of deep tendon reflexes and leg weakness (especially after long treatment periods).
  • Joint and muscle pain, including jaw pain.
  • Increased creatinine level (changes in kidney function).
  • Symptoms of infection (such as fever and pain) which may occur in the lungs, bladder, kidneys, or stomach and intestines.
  • Allergic reactions, such as rash and breathing difficulties.
  • Low number of platelets (blood cells involved in clotting).
  • Diarrhea.
  • Fatigue, fever, and pain.
RARE
  • Chest pain, breathing difficulties, respiratory tract reactions.
  • Exertional chest pain (chest pain radiating to the neck or arm), heart attack, and lung disease that can be fatal.
  • Symptoms of an allergic or anaphylactic reaction including sudden rash, itching, hives, difficulty swallowing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or other parts of the body, shortness of breath, wheezing, severe fatigue, headache, mental status changes leading to confusion and coma, convulsions, blurred vision, and high blood pressure, which may be signs of a neurological disorder like posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome, or chest pain, shortness of breath and fainting, which may be symptoms of pulmonary embolism.
  • Abnormal sensations (like tingling), which usually resolve after treatment.
  • Too high or too low blood pressure, redness and cold hands or feet. Breathing difficulties and wheezing.
  • Severe infection, such as in the intestines, or blood poisoning (sepsis).
  • Severe constipation that can lead to bowel obstruction.
  • Lung toxicity (inflammation and fibrosis, sometimes fatal).
  • Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas).
  • Low sodium levels in the blood.
  • Changes in ECG (electrocardiogram).
  • Skin problems around the injection site (this effect can be reduced by correct cannula placement and flushing after treatment).
  • Very low blood pressure, fainting.
  • Skin reactions such as rash, itching, hives.
  • Guillain-Barré syndrome (an inflammatory condition of peripheral nerves that can cause severe weakness).
  • SIADH syndrome (syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion) with symptoms such as weight gain, nausea, vomiting, muscle cramps, confusion, and convulsions.
  • Rapid heart rate, abnormal heart rhythm.
  • Fever and infection due to very low blood cell counts, decrease in white and red blood cells, and platelets.
  • Loss of appetite.
  • Headache, dizziness, and poor muscle control, which may be associated with abnormal gait, speech changes, and abnormal eye movements (ataxia).
  • Heart failure.
  • Cough.
  • Abdominal pain, gastrointestinal bleeding.
  • Liver failure.
  • Hand-foot syndrome, including redness (like sunburn), swelling, tingling or burning sensation, tenderness (pain on touch), tight skin, thick calluses and blisters on palms and soles.
  • Chills.
  • Darker skin discoloration along the veins.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to vinorelbine, other vinca alkaloids, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have or recently had a severe infection, or if you have a very low number of white blood cells (neutropenia).
  • Do not use if you have a very low number of platelets (blood clotting cells).
  • Do not use if you are breastfeeding.
  • Do not use if you are also receiving a yellow fever vaccine.

  • Tell your doctor if you have previously had ischemic heart disease (a condition where your heart does not get enough blood).
  • Tell your doctor if you are receiving radiation therapy to the liver area.
  • Report any signs of infection (e.g., fever, chills, sore throat) to your doctor as soon as possible.
  • Tell your doctor if you are receiving any live vaccines, such as oral polio vaccine or tuberculosis vaccine.
  • Avoid contact with eyes; rinse immediately with saline solution and contact an eye doctor if needed.
