How to Use

Dosage

Take 50 mg daily in the morning with a sulfonylurea, or 100 mg daily (50 mg morning, 50 mg evening) if used alone, with metformin/glitazone, or with insulin. If you have moderate to severe kidney disease or are on dialysis, take 50 mg daily in the morning.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with some water.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 100 mg.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to vildagliptin or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
  • Talk to your doctor if you are taking a sulfonylurea; your doctor might adjust its dose to prevent low blood sugar.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have moderate to severe kidney disease or are on dialysis, as you may need a lower dose.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have liver disease. Do not take this medicine if you had to stop vildagliptin before due to liver problems. Your liver function will be checked regularly.

  • Talk to your doctor if you have heart failure or a history of pancreatitis.
  • Pay attention to any new blisters or sores on your skin, and contact your doctor immediately if they appear.
  • If you feel dizzy while taking this medicine, do not drive or use machines.
  • Do not use this medicine during pregnancy or if you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed.
  • Stop taking this medicine and see a doctor immediately if you experience angioedema (swelling of face, tongue, throat, difficulty swallowing or breathing, rash, hives).
  • Stop taking this medicine and see a doctor immediately if you experience liver disease (yellow skin/eyes, nausea, loss of appetite, dark urine).
  • Stop taking this medicine and see a doctor immediately if you experience pancreatitis (severe stomach pain that may spread to your back, with nausea and vomiting).

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Do not use in hepatic impairment. (updated 10.6.2024)
