How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you the exact dose. Typical doses are 50 mg once a day (in the morning) or 100 mg daily (50 mg in the morning and 50 mg in the evening), depending on other medicines you take or if you have kidney problems.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with a small amount of water.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 100 mg.

  • Pancreas inflammation (severe stomach pain that may spread to your back, nausea, and vomiting)
  • Tiredness
  • Hives
  • Weight gain
  • Chills
  • Sexual problems
  • Low blood sugar
  • Gas (flatulence)
  • Peeling skin or blisters
  • Skin blood vessel inflammation (may cause rash, small red/purple spots, or bruises)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to vildagliptin or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis (a serious diabetes problem).
  • Tell your doctor if you take other diabetes medicines called sulfonylureas, as your dose may need to be changed to prevent low blood sugar.
  • Inform your doctor if you have moderate to severe kidney disease or if you are on dialysis, as you may need a lower dose.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver disease. Do not take this medicine if you had to stop vildagliptin before because of liver problems.

  • Inform your doctor if you have heart failure or a history of pancreas problems.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • If you feel dizzy while taking Vildagliptin Ratiopharm, do not drive or use machines.
  • Your liver function will be checked with blood tests before you start treatment, during the first year, and sometimes after.
  • Pay attention to any new blisters or sores on your skin. If they appear, contact your doctor right away.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Do not use in hepatic impairment. (updated 10.6.2024)
