How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose based on your condition. Usually 50 mg once daily in the morning (if taken with a sulfonylurea) or 100 mg daily, split into two doses (if taken alone or with other medicines). If you have kidney disease or are on dialysis, the dose is 50 mg in the morning.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with water.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 100 mg.

  • Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), which can cause severe stomach pain, nausea, and vomiting
  • Angioedema (swelling of the face, tongue, or throat, difficulty swallowing or breathing, sudden rash, or hives)
  • Liver disease (hepatitis), which can cause yellowing of the skin and eyes, nausea, loss of appetite, or dark urine
  • Localized skin peeling or blisters
  • Inflammation of blood vessels (vasculitis), which can cause rash, pinpoint red spots, or bruising under the skin

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to vildagliptin or any other ingredient.
  • Tell your doctor if you have type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe kidney or liver disease, heart failure, or have had pancreas problems.
  • Do not use this medicine if you previously stopped vildagliptin due to liver problems.
  • Follow your doctor's advice on skin care and contact them if you notice blisters or sores.
  • Your doctor will check your liver function regularly.

  • Do not use if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • If you feel dizzy, do not drive or use machines.
  • This medicine is not for children under 18 years.
  • Tell your doctor about all other medicines you take, especially sulfonylureas or if you are on dialysis, as your dose may need adjustment.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Do not use in hepatic impairment. (updated 10.6.2024)
