How to Use

Dosage

Typically ½-2 tablets (20-80 mg) daily, but your doctor may prescribe higher doses.

Method

Take the tablets with plenty of liquid, preferably on an empty stomach.

Your doctor will determine your maximum daily dose.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Low potassium and magnesium levels in the blood.
  • Increased uric acid in the blood (reversible).
  • High magnesium levels in the blood.
  • Increased LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
  • Hearing impairment.
  • Brain disorder associated with liver cirrhosis.
  • Rash.
  • Itching.
  • Sensitivity to light.
RARE
  • Low platelet count.
  • High blood sugar and reduced glucose tolerance (associated with low potassium).
  • Inner ear problems (ringing in the ears, vertigo).
  • Deafness (sometimes permanent).
  • Low blood pressure and fainting when standing up (due to dehydration).
  • Nausea.
  • Vomiting.
  • Diarrhea (with large doses or uremia).
  • Acute urinary retention (in elderly patients with an enlarged prostate).
  • Sudden, widespread rash with fever (Acute Generalized Exanthematous Pustulosis, AGEP).
  • Severe dizziness.
  • Fainting and loss of consciousness.
  • Muscle cramps.
  • Irregular heartbeat.
  • Severe stomach pain.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Vesix if you are allergic to furosemide or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you cannot pass urine at all.
  • Do not use if you have very severe liver disease that causes unconsciousness.
  • Do not use if you have a serious fluid or salt imbalance (e.g., dehydration, low potassium or sodium).
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart, kidney, or liver failure. Your doctor will monitor your fluid and salt balance during treatment.

  • Tell your doctor if you have diabetes, as furosemide may affect your blood sugar levels.
  • Tell your doctor if you have gout, as furosemide may increase uric acid levels in your blood.
  • Tell your doctor if you have an enlarged prostate, as it may cause sudden difficulty in urinating.
  • Tell your doctor if you are having surgery under general anesthesia.
  • Tell your doctor if your ears start ringing or your hearing gets worse during treatment.
  • This medicine may cause dizziness at the start of treatment. Avoid driving or operating machinery if you have these symptoms.
  • Food reduces the absorption of the medicine, so tablets should not be taken with meals.
